Wildcard weekend - yes or no

I've got an idea, how 'bout the AFL do something other than piss off the people who fund it and hold a top 8 play off weekend.
Something like 1st V 4th, 2nd V 3rd, 5th V 8th and 6th V 7th.
Rather than shove their novelty s**t down our throats.

The ‘AFL WORLD MEDIA’ will eat it up as if they are just a collection of 40 blokes and 3 women, half of whom are directly employed by the league and all of which live in one city.

People think it’s smart to add 2 games to get more money for the league. If they were truly smart they wouldn’t just suggest 7v10 and 8v9, they would have a proper final top 10 series and add in 3v6 and 4v5.

The VFL just experimented with the Wildcard weekend. It was a disaster.
7 v 10 and 8v 9 were low standard, one sided matches. Then, in week 1, 7 and 8 were absolutely thrashed by 5 and 6 who had the week’s rest. Pass.

More advantage to 1st and 2nd as a feature would be good.

The initial final eight system was not too complex. It allowed teams as low as sixth to get a second chance, among other issues.

Given we have had 2 teams who barely deserved to be there go out without a whimper this weekend I reckon wildcard is the right move.

But the teams under them weren't going to do any better. Bulldogs threw their finals chances away. However Adelaide were very unlucky not to make the finals and probably deserved to be there more than the swans.
