Well he is been Really Hampered with his Hammy Injury and Has done nothing since that game and I don't know how long is he out for.

I get a Feeling that we might let him go at Years End when his Contracts End.

Have your Say

Good thing you didn't raise this yesterday, on St Paddy's Day, Dave.

It's impossible to say, because he just hasn't had the chance to show what he can do yet. But Opti seems to think that he's got a 3-year contract. Our Irish posters, some of whom have played with or against him, think he's a Gaelic gun. I certainly hope he gets an opportunity to give it another go.

Does anyone know where he stands in terms of recovery from his injury?

Let me just get my crystal ball out shall I?

International rookies aren't always going to have the instant impact of a Marty Clarke, in fact Marty Clarke is the exception to the rule and should not at all be treated as the yard stick.

He has not had a chance to adapt to the game before the hammy injury. It will all depend on whether he wants to stay and whether the staff feel his got what it takes, if they do, considering his an international rookie there is no way I can see us not extending his contract even if we have to simply move him from international rookie to the general rookie list.

Spot on.

Marty is the exception not the rule. Unfair on other Irish kids to compare them.

With Dyas's injury concerns and the develpoment time he's missed as a result you would think the club would give him every possible chance to show them if he's capable of playing AFL by extending his stay to 3 years - if he isn't signed up for 3 already.

he was a pretty good footballer over here and very hard, so i think if he gets his hammys in order that he will make it.

not sure how long his contract is tho.

It is a good question.

I looks unlikely at this point, as he is missing out on important development of training and playing through the hammy injury. Only showed some moderate signs at best last year in matches.

We will not be able to sign him for a third year unless he comes onto the senior list, so we would have to re-rookie him (and not as an international rookie, but as a drafted rookie). Even then, I doubt there would be much competition for him from other clubs, so this is a possibility, but then we would need to weigh up the merits of him versus the merits of selecting another rookie.

I am hopeful though. Is hard as nails and has good pace. Will need to be better than the likes of Rounds, Francis, etc for a small defender spot.

He will get plenty of opportunities to show what he can do. The football department down at the Lexus Centre are not stupid, they know the huge sacrifice Dyas has made to come to Collingwood. There is no way they would bring a guy half way across the world and piss off alot of Gaelic football fans and bigwigs then not give him a chance to reach the highest level.
They will be working overtime on his development even whilst he in injured, rest assured if they didn't have 100% faith in his ability he would never have come here in the first place.
Whether or not he has a successful career in the AFL we won't know for a while however i believe he will.
