If they get Henderson, Selwood and Smith too, it will improve them quite a bit. Geelong has a better team without Dangerfield than Adelaide does without Dangerfield.
A midfield consisting Dangerfield, Selwood, Duncan, Selwood and Caddy would be dangerous.

You've assumed Geelong obtain 4 players yet also assumed Adelaide obtain none despite a massive amount of cap room.

No shit they will be better than us if they spend 2M+ more

Patrick Dangerfield, Lachie Henderson and Zac Smith are on their way to the Cats, with Scott Selwood likely to be heading there as well.

Scott Selwood is officially on his way to the the Cattery too.

You Hawks fans are scared :p

Think the closeness of results in recent years show almost anyone can beat the Hawks in knockout finals.:p

Maybe, but Geelong can't. I think Geelong are a rough chance for the flag so long as 6 or 7 other clubs are totally decimated by injuries.

You are saying that a premiership coach and 3x premiership player have no idea what it takes to win a flag?

Am I saying that your premiership coach rode on the coattails of Bomber Thompson and now has a sizable question mark over his coaching ability? Absolutely...

Alan Joyce is a dual premiership coach and he was a pox coach

you misinterpreted my post. I said if Dangerfield wasn't at Adelaide or Geelong. Geelong would be currently better. I expect Adelaide to make a play for a couple of players.

If they get Danger, they'll improve their ladder position, but I don't think they'll be a serious flag threat.

Who you reckon they'll go after? There's not much left in the wat of top end talent on the market.

FB: Enright Lonergan Kolodjashnij
HB: Thurlow Taylor Mackie
C: Motlop Dangerfield Duncan
HF: Gregson Henderson Lang
FF: Menzel Hawkins Vardy
Foll: Stanley J Selwood Guthrie
Int: Bartel Blicavs Caddy S. Selwood

Emerg:
Rucks: Z Smith
Forward: Clark, Kersten, Cockatoo
Mids: Horlin-Smith, Luxford, Cowan
Back: Murdoch, Bews

So they'll have a very good ruck and key forward outside the best 22. But history says they'll need every one of them. At least intially they'll be able to finally use Blicavs as a utility but not sure how long that will last.

They might have to give up someone like a Murdoch to bring in the 4 guys they want to bring in.

The backline will still be mostly veterans or young players. Not a lot of prime aged players there. Henderson can go back. But I feel Henderson and Taylor are both CHB's. Not sure either are perfect for a lock down FB job and then that opens up the forward line issues again.

I'm not exactly sure where Bartel fits. I would've thought he's only suited to half back these days but there's already a veteran heavy backline.

It's a super team, but I'm not sure about the depth. Whilst Dangerfield clearly helps I'm a bit suspect on the leg speed as well, particularly from the backline, but even the midfield is full of ball players with good toe I'm not sure they are perfect against the way the Hawks outside mids just run and gun.

This years additions will likely help the midfield and forward line quite a lot. But they might have to draft or trade further in the next year or two to get the backline fixed up.

Think your memory is failing you. We came within a bees diaphragm of doing it not so long ago.

If we land those we're after and Clark, Menzel, Vardy and Cowan stand-up we'll be in the mix.

Vardy 1st ruck??? Bizarre comment. Stanley surely, with Vardy giving him a chop out maybe.
But then how do you fit Hawkins, Clark and Vardy in the same team?

Personally, I don't think the Cats are going about their list management totally right.

I personally don't think so, but they should be very good

I'm in the "not sure I have faith in Scott' crew.

We would be finals bound but not much more IMO. We have too many players that have had long-term injuries so would need plenty of luck with those players to be any sort of threat. Scott would also need to work out a plan B and be more flexible on game day.

Only problem with these gets is there is a lot of butchers there. Selwood and to a lesser extent danger are terrible by foot. Selwood so bad that most west coast don't want him on the park

Should the Cats land these players, the side should be taken seriously as a premiership contender next year.

The club has a strong winning culture, and with a core of players that includes J Selwood, Hawkins, Taylor, Enright, Bartel and Mackie - these blokes know what it takes to win flags.

Simpson, Menzel, Vardy and Clark will finally be fully fit.

Write the Cats off at your own peril is all that I can say.

Personally I believe they will be the biggest roadblock standing in between Hawthorn and the four peat.

Do you rate the Cats for 2016 and how do you like their chances of winning their 4th flag in 10 years?
Surely any or all of Lonergan, Enright, Bartel and Mackie are at risk of finishing up at the end of next year.. Their entire backline or 80% of it is veterans. Premiership sides are based around solid defences, curious to see what effect this will have on the cats when they lose these players. Such quality will be hard to replace.

Henderson will play key back if he makes his way to Geelong. They will try and use Taylor in the late career Scarlett role with Lonergan at FB (with Kolodjashnij phased in as time goes on) and Henderson at CHB. Pace is definitely a query for the back six, but then Geelong never had pace in defence - only Wojcinski on transition and they will still have that through Motlop/Murdoch/Lang/Cockatoo etc.

That's why they want Henderson. Taylor is only 29 so has a few years left and with Henderson and Kolodjashnij would make a decent tall structure down back. Thurlow and Bews have gotten a bit of experience under the belt and if Danger and S.Selwood come in they'd have the ability to slot Guthrie back down there. Plus half backs can be plug and play from the draft, the tall structure is the important thing to get locked away.

I think Geelong is making a big mistake. Unless they are extremely lucky or skilled in future drafting and trading they will have a talent gap in the 18-23 year old cohort that they will have to carry through their list for the next dozen years. Dangerfield and co (if they all come this year) may make the difference in 2016 between Geelong coming 6th-12th verses coming 14th-16th. However it will only prolong the period they are out of flag contention.

Basically they need early draft picks more than established players (Dangerfield excepted).

They have plenty of players in this age category now and not many in the 25-29 age bracket.

That is why all the players they are targeting are in the 25-29 age bracket.
