Will Hayward
Spritely Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward enjoyed a rocketing start to his career as he became the 11th-youngest player in the AFL era to reach 50 career goals in 2018. The 2016 draftee’s nippy pace and cunning goal awareness have made him a dangerous option in coach John Longmire’s forward line. A broken jaw and a persistent hip injury limited Hayward to just 12 goals in 13 senior games in 2019, but the South Australian is attacking the 2020 campaign on the back of his first full pre-season. Don’t be surprised if the exciting Swan finds himself on a wing this year.

Will Hayward
DOB: 26 October 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #21, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Walkerville (SA)/North Adelaide (SANFL)

Will vs ROK in his first full season. Think ROK when he was a HF could be what Hayward will be.

Wow! just WOW!!!

Makes you wonder why we didn't grab him first. He has a massive upside.

Mainly because he was a good chance of slipping to 21

The only one that was in danger of picking him was Port and after they went SPP they were always picking Marshall.

Mind you I was beyond livid when we bid on Issac Cumming though!

I know he's a medium forward, but Do you guys think Will Hayward plays more of a crumming Tom Papley-type role, or a third tall forward, Jack Gunston-esque role?

Hr will start as a medium forward, but eventually he will be a genuine mid who swings forward. Comparisons are so hard, but ROK isn't the worst comparison.

Will Hayward reminds me of Will Hayward ;)
Kid who took the pre-draft comments from the Swans seriously enough to get a personal trainer.
Love his direct vertical leap for marks.
Love his goals.
Despite his size, he tackles better than expected.
Committed, energy, enthusiactic, talented, skilled and 18 Years old
So looking forward to seeing him play next year after another pre-season under his belt, and the next, .....

I've been excited about a few young players, but Hayward could be absolutely anything.

There is one thing you can't coach and that is having a footballing brain, he makes the right decisions.

Looking back on Adam Goodes I still have no ******* clue what "type" of player he was, but he was still bloody good to watch. Feels like Hayward is just one of a handful of young blokes we have coming through that seem to be able to excel in a variety of positions and with a variety of assets. Heeney, Hewett, Mills, Jones, Rohan (he's mature aged but still), Hayward, Florent and, of course, Aliir.

Players that as the ball approaches theem, you sit closer to the edge of your seat wondering what they will do, or amaze you when you ask "how did he do that?".

Young Will had a very quiet night.

He looked well and truly overwhelmed by the occasion

He is 18 and that was a massive game for him in front of 50,000 rabid Crows supporters. As an Adelaide boy himself he probably had the further distraction and pressure of friends and family at the game.

I wouldn't like to see him dropped over the poor performance. Come finals, back on the big stage with similar pressure, he would have learnt a lot.

Kid is a match winner and I hope we stay with him come finals

He is fine.

16 games in. Forwards got sfa ball all night. Midfield struggling to contain the Crowd.

He was not even remotely good but at 18 in his first "final" he will now know what is required.

His pace and goal sense are needed in that forward line.

Well I'll be ****ed! Never touched it the first half because the coaches threw him down back but kicked some nice goals when thrust forward...must be some truth to this efficiency thing. Bullshit to be honest but he's had a very very good first year!
