I have a mate who has inside info at the bulldogs and he believes that will minson might be up for trade. Would we do it? Surely he would be better than both of our 3rd rate rucks

He's having a shocking year. Dont know whats gone wrong there, clearly a falling out with Eade. Worth a punt, probably better than Bryan, but realistically our future ruckman needs to come through the draft.

Why does it NEED to come through the draft? Sure we have had 2 great years at the draft table, but we've also had fantastic picks to do it with (yes goldy and dick were late picks). Why not trade for a ruckman? There are plenty to go around, but we have to find the right one to compliment fraser. Laycock would be perfect, but sheedy wont trade him, minson wouldnt be bad but has dropped in form, Johnson or Jamar from Melbourne would be at the top of my list, Jamar would probably be cheaper, and would be a perfect fit i feel.

I will say ill be very suprised if we take out the premiership this year, i dont think we can do it without a 2nd ruckman (bryan and richards arent a ruckmans sphincter let alone a ruckman) and we need to look at our ageing midfield soon. Burns is having a great year, and i think he can go one more as an impact player in 08, but i think that will be the last. If Bucks can play 75% of the game as a leading forward in the last 6 rounds + finals i think he'll go again aswell.

Licuria is slowing down and i dont think we can play both him and O'bree in the same team anymore, licuria is pushing 30 and obree is 29 next year, who will take over as the in and under players when they retire? This is going to be a major problem if not looked at in the next or two. Will we have a pick good enough this year to get the 4th selwood? Another in and under who is said to be alot like Joel, if confident thats where id look to for our new extractor, if not look at offering our first rounder to get a ready made player, boyd from the dogs, lewis at the hawks, moloney at melbourne?

Minson isn't good enough, IMHO.

I agree we should trade AND draft. I would give serious consideration to Rusling for Meesen, with perhaps a swap of second round picks.

We have a few coming through. Swans already there, as is Johnson. Iles Stanley Toovey and Clarke are the next generation. Pendelbury doesnt mind it in heavy traffic either.

I'll answer this one. Will Minson is considered as a hot prospect for the future. There is no way would get rid of him, in fact if anything we need more ruckman not less. Darcy is getting old, and Street will never be able to run out 90-100% of a match. That is why Minson is so vital, he is the future. (Plus i've heard Eade say, he has high expectations for him)

None of them are the solid in and under quick handball out player that we need though.

They all could be. Stanley Iles and Clarke especially. And theres Ryan Cook as somebody else pointed out.

We've got plenty of in and under types comng through. What we need is more pace and x factor types, like Dick and Wellingham.

*If* he were available , and Butane suggests otherwise , I would have a serious crack at him . Depending on price of course .
He is big and he is aggressive , couple of handy starting requisites in a ruckman for mine . Much better option than Bryan .

Happy to trade & draft but not with a 1st rounder. Without doing any research I can't recall too many 1st round ruck draft picks who have done on to be guns (Josh aside of course but then most don't actually rate him as a ruckman), happy to be proven wrong though. I'd be looking at a rookie, even a mature age one.

At least Minson has a go. Richards and Bryan have about as much **** in them as a Barbie doll.

The last thing we need is another second rate ruckman. If we trade for a ruckman it must be a player who has actually done something at senior level. I believe we must draft a young kid and because trading for second rate ruckman is not going to work.

Thomas too. He will become a midfielder. Heath Shaw possibly (if Cook works out for us, he may replace Heater of half back, moving Heath to the midfield).

And by the time that 'young kid' has developed Fraser would have retired. Ruckman dont start peaking until atleast 25 years old.

I think Minson would fit the bill at the pies. But he will remain a Bulldog.

When is he out of contract borgy????

would be better the bryan, i still have faith in richards!
we need an established, like charman, to take this current crop of youngsters to the top asap! We should also draft a youngin or two to come thru in 5 years time!

Rubbish, they all have question marks. Premiership teams do not have questionable in and unders - kirk, judd, jcarr, voss etc. We need a quality in and under like lewis, cross, dal santo and trade hard to get them. If you can get the ball out quick even blokes like lonie can get a kick and look good

Guys, i reckon this year will be termed the year of the RUCKMEN.
There are a quite a few in the national draft, and quite a few that are uncontracted who may become available.
Players like charman (who has alraedy indicated a move to melb).
Meeson and biglands from adelaide.
Minson from the bulldogs, and correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think that Sandilands has re signed with freo,or has he?
So we need a project ruck option through the draft and a ready made no 1 ruckman to free up josh.My choice would be either Meeson (cause he's young ) or Charman becase he is in his prime and we would get a few years from him.
Couple that with a good little insde mid ,an extractor of the ball,a young scotty burns,( maybe heater could become that),but why not get another player who is similar in thr draft and we are cooking with gas.
