There's a huge difference between making a Prem Final and winning a premiership and losing a grand final by a point, wouldn't you say? I would think that a player with the calibre of Everitt would surpass any of the players you named (Hudson aside).

Topping up teams lists with experienced players is not something new, nor something that only the swans practice. Of course it can backfire, but so can the draft. Stats say it's more likely that a player won't make it, then will. Wouldn't you think it's an acceptable risk to take a punt on a player like Everitt?

Plenty of teams given the chance, would kill for the opportunity that teams like the eagles and swans find themselves in at present - as the stand out contenders for next years premiership.

Making 1 prelim is a bit different from winning a premiership and then losing a gf by a point the year after.

However if you were to make 2 prelims in a row then it is similar..and you would be forgiven for trying to fix up one of your weaknesses to win a flag in the next few years.

So let me get this straight...
If a club recruits a player and they don't win a premiership before that player retires, the trade was a failure?

So does this mean every trade Richmond has for the last quarter of a century has been a failure?

Yes. But the logic is flawed anyway so neither are true. Spida doesn't have to win a flag to be a success at the swans. All he can do is play well himself. The rest have to take care of themselves. If he stars, then the trade worked out. If not, at least it wasn't a terribly high draft pick.

I think if one thing has been shown to be true over the last couple of years is that the Swans do trade / recruit from other clubs very astutely.

Would Sydney have had the successful few years they have had without Hall, Jolly, Ball, Davis, Maxfield, C. Bolton. Even Ted Richards showed glimpses towards the end of the year that he has been a good get for them.
