There's a huge difference between making a Prem Final and winning a premiership and losing a grand final by a point, wouldn't you say? I would think that a player with the calibre of Everitt would surpass any of the players you named (Hudson aside).
Topping up teams lists with experienced players is not something new, nor something that only the swans practice. Of course it can backfire, but so can the draft. Stats say it's more likely that a player won't make it, then will. Wouldn't you think it's an acceptable risk to take a punt on a player like Everitt?
Plenty of teams given the chance, would kill for the opportunity that teams like the eagles and swans find themselves in at present - as the stand out contenders for next years premiership.
