Will Trent Dennis-Lane get a game?

Would be ahead of Milera IMO

Not sure about that.

No reason they both can't play in the same team though as they both bring different skills to the table despite looking similar, TDL is more a traditional half forward while Milera is just an unpredictable X factor.

I think it's safe to say that Scott likes him otherwise there would be no reason to recruit a 24 year old Collingwood 6 footer(look up the meaning if you are under 25 years old).
Let's remember that we finished 9th whilst this boy was an emergency for the eventual premiers in the grand final. For that reason alone he is more than just a depth player, we are not the elite team we used to be so he gets a game every week from my perspective.

He was also behind Lewis Jetta...

We on the other hand have a veteran small forward, an injury ravaged (sad but true) Adam Schneider who I think unfortunately may retire younger than we'd hope....

The end may come quick for either, not to mention it gives Scott the luxury of resting the veterans at times.

Having a mature guy like TDL around can't hurt, can it?

You'd go that far?

Yea, but not much between them. I'm still trying work out how one then fits in side when we are full strength. So many forwards to pick from!!

He's a utility that kicks goals. Nuff said.

He is most certainly not a utility. He's a pure goal kicker.

I'd say you'd have several guys that play a similar role, but do it more competitively.

There's no questioning he's a really classy finisher, and he's definite polish for a good side with good delivery to the forwards (we were a good side with poor delivery). I do question his value in a team that's not likely to be at the peak of the competition though (no offence).

He made efforts to add some grunt work to his game last year, but he ended up looking really lost, running up the ground like a headless chook and doing nothing well, and then being absent when the ball came back the other way. Yesterday's game, he was back to his old tricks of somehow finding space in congested forward lines, and nailing the goals.

But they're almost always set shots. He certainly won't be able to do what Milne does (and wasn't able to do what Morton ended up doing for us).

Mitch Morton? Are you kidding? He played 5 games for a grand possession total of 42 and kicked 5 goals for the year, the luckiest player since Aaron Keating to win a premiership medal.
With all due respect we are as talented a bunch as your team, we just never won the real close ones last year yet still won 12 games.
You guys have more chance of getting Barry Hall in the Mardi Gras than you do of going back to back, even with your inflated salary cap and rigged draw.

What a strangely hostile reply.

As far as the Milne/Morton comparison goes, I meant Dennis-Lane wouldn't have kicked those snapped goals in heavy traffic that Morton snagged in the third in the GF, and that Milne kicks all the time.

He's not really a small, crumbing forward. In his 3 years at the Swans, he showed himself to be almost exclusively a marking forward with a very accurate set shot, with the occasional in-play goal scored by running into space.

Was that really necessary? And FWIW, if we were just as talented as Sydney then we WOULD have won the close games.

Let the trend of Sydney players that come to St Kilda being pretty handy continue :)

He's someone you'd like to have up forward when the games get close. I think Scott Watters will use him as a sub a fair bit this season.

i remember jumping in the air, fist pumping at that last tackle.

boy from subi tackles the boy from the swannies. guess who ****ing won, yeh thats right!!! swannies have been our bitch for over 2 decades now and it aint going to stop anytime soon

EDIT: by swannies i mean swan districts not sydney

2 goals + 1 crucial goal assist in a grand final is very good for a small fwd. credit where credit is due. he was also pretty good in the final vs adelaide.

i could be wrong on this but his form was better than hyphens in the local league

TDL's form in the NEAFL was actually really solid, and much better than Morton's for almost the whole year. Played a fair bit up the midfield and looked really composed and classy, apparently. But it sort of fell apart when he tried to translate that to AFL level, for some reason. Had a fair few chances, but only really impacted the game against the Demons, and, well...

As far as Morto goes, he averaged like 6 or 7 goals a game in the reserves, but it was only in the back end of the year that he actually started doing anything other than kicking bags of goals, hence his lack of call up. The NEAFL standard is pretty grim, so we've learnt not to read too much into it.

Of course, TDL may flourish at a new club, as often happens, but if his general form line continues, he'll dominate the VFL, earn a call up every now and then, and average a goal or two and a handful of possessions. If he's not filling a role-playing hole in your list, he's an odd pickup.

But good luck to him. One of my favourite players in our 2010 side, for sure.

cheers for the feedback!!! great insight.

are there any plans to improve the quality of opposition in the NEAFL?

So let me get this straight, Sydney only won the premiership cos of a rigged draw, little bit extra salary cap & they won the close games. If they didn't have all that then we would have been premiers cos we are "as talented"'as them?

Thanks for provided good laugh BS, really needed that this morning.

Nah we are shit and we will rebuild our team based on castoffs who arent good enough to play in the really talented lists.

Expect him to be in our best 21 every week, the coach loves him and that's why he was recruited, why else would you bring a 24 year old into the club?

Ahhh the umpires whistle has brought you back. Good to see you here again.

I agree with this but Milera has a lot mroe potential
Why does a 68 Kg 25 year old have more potential than a 75Kg 24 year old.
To me they are both a bit late developing to think that they will set the world on fire anytime soon.
Minch probably has more potential than both.

At least we have some 24-25 year olds on the list now ;)
