Graham Johncock become a full time midfielder?

Yet again today, the was an article on hos Johncock wants to play in the midfield and how McLoed thinks Stiffy can be the best player this club has ever produced if played in the guts . Huge call I know but I do think he has all the tools to be a genuine superstar midfielder of the competition.

What has apparently held him back over the years is apparent lack of fitness but bloody hell, the lad runs up and down the ground like a mad man from defence and I am sure he covers a LOT of territory in a game of footy.

He has the genuine pace, ball getting ability and skill to be a great midfielder. If Stiffy can play in the midfield then our new midfield would have another dimension with a player that we haven't really had in there since McLeod.

For some reason the coaching staff has been reluctant to play Johncock in the midfield. Its worth a shot IMHO.

I'm going for no too Stiffy.

Your namesake has expressed that wish for the past 2 years, but the club still don't think that he has the aerobic capacity to play as a full-time mid-fielder.

I do think he might get brief cameo visits there but that wasn't the question.

an inability to develop the required fitness mainly.

to my mind, it should already be a bit of a no brainer. But, it still seems to be a bit of a problem.

Besides I like his run off half back, and have no interest trying to keep up with the jones's. i.e. Shaun Burgoyne comparisons.

I don't think it's so much aerobic capacity, I think it's more a lack of pace. I think if he was more confident in himself he would make better decisions, but he just doesn't have the leg speed of McLeod or Burton that enables him to play full time in the midfield. Rotate him through it, for maybe 5 minutes a quarter, but TBH I don't think he can play there full time.

what about your previous POV that Stiffy WONT ever be a full time midfielder due to lack of aerobic capacity?

I say no

He is a burst player IMO,who likes a run at the ball.

Not so much someone who has to go to stoppage after stoppage.

Anyway he is ffing killing them at HB/BP so why upset the balance?

I would love to see stiffy in the midfield. Our contested ball skills has been very questionable, and stiffy's ability to win the hard ball will be valuable in the midfield.
