Will Young effectively retired from AFL

Not sure if this has been covered before, but heard this from a mate yesterday. Has started working at a bar with this mate of mine, and is planning on a 2 year overseas trip after his contract is up with Adelaide, working bars etc. Already has a mutual agreement with the club to not renew his contract beyond 2012.

It's a real shame, could have been a decent player.

Absolutely shattering if this indeed the case. Another career cut too short. Hopefully he continues to play footy at some level. You never know what lays ahead, there are plenty of mature agers getting opportunities. Wish him all the best for the future if true.

What a pity he can play. Should be some sort of supplementary rookie list for chronically injured players so clubs can keep them on without taking up list/salary cap space. No way the club could justify keeping him as it now stands. The forward from West coast that had 3 knee recons (Wilson?) would have been kept on if this was an option.

Yeah definitely true, saw his status on FB the other day (he is a friend of my mate and it came up in the newsfeed as 'Your friend likes this status'. The status was something like 'Officially moving to London in October, one way flights booked'.

Very sad that injuries ruined his career. Love wearing his 2009 #39 PI home guernsey around though, wore it all across the USA over summer and even wore it to the game yesterday

Ah bugger. Bad luck Will. I had some hope he might be able to get his body right and really give us another great lock-down defender. Really suits our playstyle at present.
