How the %$#^
does tomic get a spot they should have overlooked his spot and gave it to kokkinakis at least he will try. In before tomic loses in 65 minutes in the opening round

A DAY after plummeting to ignominious final-round qualifying defeat Bernard Tomic has been gifted an incredible Wimbledon lifeline - a first-round clash with a fellow lucky loser.

The Queenslander was given a second chance after signing up as an alternate in case higher-ranked players withdrew.

And the decision has paid off in spades.
omic will play Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz - also a lucky loser - after a string of players succumbed to injury.

Nick Kyrgios was elevated to 15th seed after Roberto Bautista-Agut withdrew.

Tomic’s much-needed change in fortune means he will return to the scene of his lamentable first-round loss last year.

If players in the main draw pull out at the last minute, then losers in the final round of qualifying can gain a spot.
There are already 5 lucky losers in qualifying who have now earned a spot in the main draw.

Do you know how they are selected? Lottery, criteria, tournament organiser's discretion?

I could be wrong here but i believe that after qualifying you can put your name down as an alternate for the tournament. I think that if a player in the main draw pulls out, the highest ranked alternate is then offered a spot in the draw. So based on ranking, but again I'm not 100% certain.

I think they changed it to a lottery amongst x number of players because previously the top seeds in qualifying would just tank the last round of qualies if they knew a certain player was definitely going to pull out of the main draw.

Edit: only at GS it seems.

Shortly thereafter, a new policy was introduced in Grand Slam tournaments. Since 2006, the four highest ranked players who lose in the last round of qualification take part in a four-way random draw, the results of which are used to determine the order in which each player will enter the main draw. Consequently, if only one main draw spot for a lucky loser is available, the highest-ranked loser has just a 25% chance of entering the draw, instead of 100% as in the past. This element of uncertainty helps to ensure that final-round qualifying matches remain competitive. However, this rule does not apply in all other tournaments.

Anyone know when the order of play is released for round one?

I listened to an interview with the illustrious craig gabriel yesterday morning. He mentioned that as tradition decrees, the womens no 1 seed opens centre court proceedings on Day 2. Is that right?

I thought it wouldve been the defending champion?

This always comes up every year so i will quickly mention it, the deal between seven and fox allows for seven to pick 2 matches they have exclusive and then the next 3 exclusive to fox. Looking at it tonight, its likely:

Seven exclusive:
Querrey vs. Thompson
Federer vs. Lajovic

Fox exclusive (most likely):
Dimitrov vs. Wawrinka
Serena vs. Rus
Probably Millman
