But by the same token, winning them gets us on a roll for next season. Going into a pre-season knowing that you ended the season well is a great motivator! Winning breeds winning. The way to see this year is a temporary hiccup in an other wise sound plan of list development that has been complicated by injuries. It would make for a longer summer I think if we go into it on the back of a string of loses.
Big losses yes. If we manage to win one or two more against Eagles and say Pav's 350th (although could be the same game) and are competitive in the rest then that's not that bad. If we get absolutely destroyed in all our games that's when it becomes detrimental. I would still want a high draft pick for all that carp we had to deal with at the start of the season and I reckon Ross the Renovator might play the kids a few more times and give a less experienced team a crack in some winnable games. I reckon 4-5 wins for the season, with 18 competitive losses despite our injuries will not be as debilitating as it's made out to be.
Next year we get Fyfe, a fully fit Sandi, Johnson (possibly), A.Pearce, Bennell, a high draft pick, pre-seasons into Tucker, Balic, Blakely, Hughes (who showed a bit before getting injured), Weller, Apeness (who's corner I'm still in) and possibly McCarthy. If we can get this right, transition well into a post Pav world with these guys pushing for selection and consolidating themselves into the best 22 then next year with the softer draw could mean we make the bottom of the 8. Worst case we miss finals for another year, get a decent draft pick again and have another season to get cohesion between our forward lines.
