...do we have a dilemma on our hands?

His main goal for 09 will be to make finals, so in the off season will he sacrifice long term players, for the short term fix (i.e Trade our picks away for Kerr)

I just feel if he was secure in his position, he would continue along with the youth policy, rather than having to think about getting the cattle to Punt Rd to make finals next year. Thats why i think they should just give him an extension ASAP. Takes away the dilemma of sustained long-term gain or short term fix.

Thoughts?

Could not agree more. We must give Terry a new contact right away. It would then give him the confidence knowing he will be there after next season. If march and co sack Wallace well We will head to Puntroad and Protest what they do. We finally are getting things right so March back down.

With the list we have now we should make finals next year IMO. We dont need any quick fix players like Kerr or Cousins.

Support Wallace.

Give him a contract.

And I'm not saying this because of our good finish to the season, I said it back around Round 10.

Surely we should not give Terry a new contract before his current one is up and his objectives have been met - making us a finals contender.

Players have to perform under pressure. Often they perform very well in contract years. Why should a coach be any different?

Terry should have a say in the recruiting, however he is part of a team that make decisions on who stays, who comes and who goes. As a result I think we should trust the process and the orginisation...oh and Terry.

Lastly - for the record there are only very few circumstances where I would be happy with terry being retained if we don't make the finals next year. It would have to involve a lot of things out of his control. And he would have to be creative like this year with the Richo move to the Wing.
Maybe he will turn Jake King into a CHF?

naa he is going to do a better party trick, he is going to turn JON into one.
Who needs Houdini, we have TW. ;)

Agreed - but don't let him change that plan for his own short term gains (if that is what his push is about).

Wallace has said he will not trade for players simply because it could be his last year, but will consider it if a player is available in the right age bracket.

"Decisions have to be made there and they are not all my decisions," he said.

"I am just hopeful the club gives us an opportunity.

"We are now locked and loaded and ready to be able to really put in some form of challenge going into next year.

"Do we go into the marketplace? You would like it to be a footy decision, but that's not always the case."

We need to be active in the trade period..... I would say every off season TW and Miller have been on board have been a success.

Our current list proves that.

Sure you can criticize the Mcmahon trade but he did notch up over 500 possessions for the year and was instrumental down back all season.

Ready to win a premiership are we nut?

Off course not..... but we are on the up dont you agree??? The potential improvement in the list looks huge dont you agree????

Like I've said in the past rebuilding should be ongoing...... but you dont sit on your hands wait for things to happen. The club should be active leading upto and in the trade period. Doesn't mean we have to trade but we should be exploring avenues to make the side better. Simmonds was 25 when we got him, Polak was 22 , Mcmahon was 23, Morton 20...... TW track record in recruiting young players is there for everyone to see.... Why the sudden need to take TW out of the picture???

Because he wants to trade for for Kerr. His involvement in the McMahon trade shows he should not have a big influence on list management.

Finals are what it's about, and finals action is part of the 5 year plan TW implemented when he became Richmond coach

He will deliver as promised, espicially after the fantastic springboard this season has just delivered

All is travelling beautifully, and we are on track to become a serious contender from 2009 onwards.

Well done to TW and his team for implementing a vision and plan that assures the Tigers a prosperous, successful long term future :thumbsu:

Have you not been reading the Herald Sun? Terry has 'no control' over whats happening during Trade and Draft day. Terry wont be able to do a quick fix, all the recruiting/trading will be done by Craig Cameron.

We have nothing to worry about.

All this is obviously hugely relevant, because, after our jump up half the ladder this year, next year we will no doubt go backwards if we don't top up with experienced, older players.

Which is precisely why we shouldnt trade for Kerr. What were we offering, picks 3, 18, 19 or whatever they were? Cotchin, Rance and McMahon...No thank you
Picks 2,18,19, 35 for Morton and Judd. Thank Christ that trade didn't get through. Like I said on another thread:

Jack Ziebell + Jackson Trengove + Alex Rance > Daniel Kerr + 3rd/4th rounder.

Gees, that's a simple and naive view of the world.
Do you go giving people more money, and promises of more contractual work, BEFORE they have successfully completed the last job you gave them, and the results they promised you in the first job?

Finals in 2009, or believe me, TW is gone.

(TW's a ****ing professional....like our footballers....the next clown that says 'such & such needs confidence' should understand that the coach or player that they are being a bleeding heart for shouldn't be at our club originally, or masquerading as a professional to start with if they need confidence. Confidence comes from within. Not a 50 year contract or holding someone's hand for ever. Wise up.)

Gees, I'm tired of this 'confidence' excuse. What a 'skirt' excuse. :thumbsd:

I agree, as fantastic as Kerr is, he is worth far more to WCE than he is to us. They are not looking to full of midfield talent anymore, with Cousins and Judd gone, whereas our midfield although lacking a bit of depth is looking fairly solid, with Tuck, Deledio, Cotchin etc coming through, WCE are always going to ask for more than what he is actually worth to our side.

Ruckman instead please
