Wolfmother break up

Meshuggah fans love to bag DEP about being emo or trendcore (yes, people actually use this term...) and DEP fans usually bag Meshuggah for a myraid of reasons (generic, boring, formularic, no emotion, shit vocalist etc.) all mostly unfounded.

I was not aware of this rivalry either. Seems pretty darn strange to me.

But for anyone to suggest Meshuggah's music is generic and formulaic shows little to no knowledge of music at all.

As for Wolfmother....good ****ing riddance. Terrible, unoriginal band. The whole ripping off 70's rock gods sound is so last year anyway. Probably realised that they couldn't get much more mileage out of their "style" anymore.

dunno

are wolf & cub any good? only ever heard 1 song

I like what i've heard but haven't heard a lot really. They were meant to be the next Wolfmother/Jet in terms of popularity but i'm not sure what happened.

Again, going by some of the nonsense you've spouted about him and his work in this thread, yes, I do.

Of course it does. You certainly don't have to like him, but the simple fact is that he's one of the most innovative and prolific vocalists in modern music.

Refusing to acknowledge that is about as stupid as the opinions of Suspense's hypothetical Meshuggah-hater.

Fair enough mate

They were extremely underwhelming in person, Stockdale had the retro rock n roll look, but could not back it up in personality and was in fact a total nerd.

BUT - I reckon they get a pretty bad rap from many. Can you at least admit some of their songs were catchy and although a blatant rip off of classic 1970's bands, guitar based rock n roll is a genre I am particularly fond of. They weren't anything special but the music was better than 95% of the shite you hear on radio.

Do people hate their music or them more?

People are acting like Wolfmother are as annoying as Britney Spears, crazy frog or any of the modern "R&B" on the charts these days. They might be derivative and generic, but you don't have to look far to find worse music. At least they were ripping off from decent bands - they could have chosen Wham! as an influence ;)

I don't give a shit about Wolfmother or them breaking up. What annoyed me was their lame fans hyping them up as the best thing slice bread when clearly they were a ripoff band with little creativity that wouldn't last.

Unfortunately its easy to see why they got popular and I'm sure there will be another one just like them down the track somewhere..

lmao @ the 'retro nerds' comments too

Meshuggah are the exact opposite of generic, boring and formulaic. Their music is supposed to be emotionless, that is kind of the point. Their themes are usually man vs. machine, viewed from the machine side. Kidman might not be the best vocalist but he suits Meshuggah perfectly.
Preaching to the choir. Doesn't mean I didn't cop this shit from knuckleheaded DEP fans at The Palace a few months back...

For anyone interested, some proper, awesome aussie retro-rock: Looking Glass

check them out round the traps if you get a chance. They're different at least and quite musically sound IMO

Not too disappointed Wolfmother have broken up, I saw them once and bought the album, they were fun but it's no great loss.

As for this debate, I've just recently got into Meshuggah and they really blow me away, I'm usually not into metal which is that extreme, but it's so original and brutal, while being technically intricate and challenging.

And this DEP v Meshuggah rivalry exists, believe me. I was outside the Helmet gig a few months back having a smoke and chatting to some other blokes and one w***er was pestering me "You have to see Dillinger, they'll blow your mind!" I've listened to the recent album and bought Miss Machine, I'm not really a fan to be honest, I dont mind them. And I said "You want to see a band that will blow your socks off, see Meshuggah in October. And he's saying they're crap and all of this and got really offended. Why would he give a shit if I like Meshuggah and not DEP? Who knows, but it fired him up!

This is just one bloke of course, but there's an example for you.

It should be the same thing.

That's what good artistry is about....isn't it ?

An extenson of your true self ?

My hope that no musicians would be callous enough to enable Stockdale to pollute the airwaves with more horrifically derivative "rock" music?

:D That's very optimistic of you! There's some horrible, horrible people out there.

well it seems that there are some members of the raconteurs (saboteurs, whatever) that are both "callous" and "horrible, horrible people"!!!

I wouldn't read a lot into it at this stage. At least my man Jack White has nothing to do with any of this madness!
The Raconteurs are a top band producing some quality music at the moment, so I really can't see where a hack like Stockdale would fit into that equation...

I agree, went to Meredith a couple of years ago and saw them for the first time. Never much chop.
I've seen them 4 times (3 festivals, 1 solo) really gave them a chance but they just couldn't do it for me. I wanted to like them, they just sounded ball-less live. The album was waaaay overproduced for mine, would've been ok if they added a little more bottom-end & grit to it. The EP was serviceable without being great.
