Women's Team

This isn't a very PC thing to say, and I'll probably get shot down by any SJW's on here, but I honestly don't see the point in investing ourselves into a Women's League.

It isn't going to help our club achieve the ultimate success in the main league, and as "feel good" as it might be, it really serves no true purpose other than to placate the feminists of the world in my opinion.

Investing in a stand-alone VFL team was beneficial to us because it helps us have a consistent message and development strategy across the entire club at multiple playing levels, but a Women's team serves no real purpose to us outside of simply being represented in a Women's league, which again as I said, I simply can't justify as relevant in any way, shape, or form.

The entire purpose of the RFC is to provide a structure and financial/training support base for the AFL footy team. Having a Women's team placed in that structure does not improve the position of the AFL footy team, and it drains resources that could otherwise be put into the AFL footy team.

I'm not against there being a Women's league, but I'm more than happy for the RFC to not be involved or putting resources into it, and instead focusing all of our resources on what actually matters, i.e winning AFL Premierships.

We are interested, but are likely to miss

Dogs and dees are all but a lock, and both the Dons and pies are pushing very hard, plus most other Melb clubs have thrown their hat on

It will be 3-4 Vic sides

I'm certainly not going to downplay women playing the game like some are here, the exhibition game earlier this year was a great standard and better than some of the AFL games in excitement.

I was wondering if part of the reason we hadn't pushed so hard for a side was because we've already outgrown the facilities at Punt Road and adding another team will just add more support staff who we'd need to find space for.

People scoff, but some of these women are seriously talented. My footy team partially trains with the club's women's team and there are a few that have skills just as good as the men.

The obvious issue is whether there's a talent pool big enough to have a sustainable competition. My tip is there'll be a lot of blowouts.

Firstly, love your rant and agree.

Secondly the clubs want this as they can see the economic benefits to their clubs from having women play, girls and to an extent certain women are an untapped resource in themselves.
Women currently plying their trades in other codes and sports will see the benefits of changing to aussie rules because of the exposure it will gain, this in turn will benefit the clubs through monetary terms including different sponsors men could never garner.

There is a market for it, but i think it's been rushed.
