Woolmer Heart Attack Reports Dismissed.

Jamaican police have dismissed reports that Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer died of a heart attack and was not murdered.

The Jamaican Gleaner newspaper said on Sunday that a pathology report submitted by Scotland Yard detectives stated that Woolmer "died of natural causes and not manual strangulation as was initially reported by Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields".

But the Jamaican police said they are standing behind their belief that Woolmer was murdered.

Claims grow that Woolmer was not murdered

May 15, 2007
A report in today's London Times has backed claims at the weekend that a Home Office pathologist has concluded Bob Woolmer died of natural causes and was not murdered.
Reports from the post-mortem, photographs and other material have been examined by Dr Nat Carey, the pathologist who examined the bodies in the Soham murder case.
The original post-mortem, carried out in Jamaica, decided that strangulation was possible because a bone on Woolmer's neck had been broken.
Police are reported to be waiting for the results of a toxicology report after traces of a herbicide were found in Woolmer's body. The chemical is sometimes used on cricket pitches as a weedkiller, and one theory is that he might have accidentally ingested it. The report will show if the level of the toxin were suspiciously high or whether they could have built up over a period of time.
The Times noted that the herbicide can cause sickness and diarrhea, both of which Woolmer suffered on the night he died. The broken bone could have been the result of a fall as he collapsed in his hotel bathroom.
The report also claimed that the possibility that he was attacked by a disgruntled fan or player have been ruled out.
There were also criticisms of the handling of the investigation by the Jamaica police, with delays in retrieving and examining the CCTV, a failure to take swabs from Woolmer's hands and body, and the fact that the body was embalmed within hours of the post mortem.
The Jamaica Gleaner published a hard-hitting editorial on Tuesday in which the local police were openly slammed. "The now-it-is-now-it-isn't spectacle being played out in the international media over Woolmer's death must be particularly upsetting to his family and makes Jamaica's constabulary appear a bunch of incompetent boobs. It couldn't hurt the investigation, we feel, to publish the pathology report so as to clear the air. There should also be some official statement why the scheduled coroner's inquest appears to have been postponed indefinitely."

This article by former Australian Mike Haysman brings together all the multiple theories and ridiculous innuendo surrounding the case. A neat summary of the farce.

Murder mayhem…..by Mike Haysman Posted on 14 May 2007

The Miami Herald that is delivered to my doorstep every morning is a good read.
However, I must admit that scanning the headlines and focusing on articles of interest is my game, rather than devouring every written word. A bold italic got my attention this morning.
CRICKET COACH NOT MURDERED it read!
I immediately felt anger. I simultaneously felt empathy for the Woolmer family.
I knew Bob very well. He was a regular on Extra Cover for ten years and was without doubt our most accommodating guest. It was never too much trouble for Bob to appear on the show and share his opinions. I appreciated that.
What I don’t appreciate is all the blatant confusion surrounding his death. During my travels to the Caribbean recently, word on the street was that the investigating officers were waiting for the World Cup to self destruct and complete (which it did simultaneously) before announcing distinct progress.
Clearly that was just another smokescreen, a shameful one at that.
I am certain you agree with me that the handling of this murder investigation is a disgrace. Obviously no one is any wiser and finality is remote. Every second day some new revelation hits the headlines from all corners of the cricketing globe.
Poor Gill.
We heard that the first autopsy was inconclusive. Corruption assassins were blamed. His impending book contents were allegedly the catalyst. Three mystery fans were fingered. Bob was strangled. The time of death was inconclusive. Snake poison was injected prior to that cowardly act. The Pakistan squad has been officially eliminated from the investigation. It was certain he had been murdered. He hit his head.
A towel was the weapon of choice. A Scotland Yard cavalry was flown in to assist the case. A poisonous herb was administered. CCV footage was problematic. The toxicology reports were questioned and were the subject of enormous delay. The coroner’s inquiry was delayed due to “new and significant developments”.
He was drugged. He was intoxicated. A weedkiller was swallowed. A Pakistan investigator stated that there was lack of evidence to prove that Bob was murdered. Champagne was contaminated. His killers sent his last email.
Poor Gill.
This investigation has been a shambles and an example of incompetence at its best. It has been as if the Keystone Cops have been on the killer or killers trail. It has certainly lacked consistency and organisation. It has also smacked of individual glorification from those entrusted with bringing the guilty to justice.
Cohesive conclusions are immediately required before this further spirals out of control. Bob Woolmer deserves better than this disarray. Poor Gill.

If there were traces of poisoning it will be interesting to know what chemicals where found.

If it wasn't contained in something common, Aconite would lead me to suggest it would have been a local poisoned him... you're starting to move into the world of seriously organised criminals or people like bokors.
