Rosa has had a nothing year but healthy he is also a handy player as a second tier mid.

The problem is after that it drops off really quickly (This is where the Swift, Stevens, Sheppard, Ebert, Weedon picked have stuffed us because that should be the secondary midfield). Even in a relatively lucky year we will inevitably have some injuries and we quickly need to develop the depth to cover it.

Re: bigger bodies - I don't think that's the main problem (though I did notice that Priddis for instance was able to take the contact a dish the ball off better than a few others who were getting dispossessed easily).

The main problem is we need some mids who can actually PICK UP THE DAMN BALL and not fumble it 20 times and then actually be able to hit a target by foot or spread properly.

AND

We need some half back flankers who can do something other than STAND AND STARE CLUELESS AT THE WING I MEAN FFS TRY RUNNING FORWARD AND ACTUALLY CREATING SOMETHING!

Anyway as terrible as that was we were missing:

Hurn, Waters, NN, Shuey (at least a fit Shuey that can play properly), LeCras, Masten.

Not THAT many but all in our best 10.

You are absolutely right, that midfield you listed is definitely pretty handy :) I completely agree with regards to the actual depth of our midfield rotation, this is where we fall way behind the top teams, as I have read many times on here recently, we have failed big time with regards to our drafting in this area. And yes it is incredibly frustrating seeing the constant fumbling and lack of touch in our ball handling, our skill level in general is so disappointing.

We were missing players. In my mind though, I cannot forget the Richmond game, I recall we had our near best team on the park, our performance that night... That was the point of no return for me :(
 
It is not Woosha's style to publicly berate his players and he has always kept his cards close to his chest (frustratingly close). It appeared clear though from his post match presser, that he is unhappy with the team. If he is retained I would not be shocked if there were a few surprise delistings or at least quite a structural shake up.

What kind of structural shake-up do you foresee?
 
I see what he's tried to do with this most recent preseason, trying to employ a large emphasis on fitness so that we can run teams into the ground on the longer Paterson's Stadium. It worked well for him in 2002-2007 but it is backfiring on him now.

Despite the impressive time trials - our players look cooked out there. We get thumped by the quicker, fitter sides at PS and seem to play our best football at Etihad Stadium, a much smaller ground, go figure.

I'm a fan of Woosh, but I think he's ****ed it up this year. There was next to zero emphasis on skills which was such a huge factor in our resurgence in 2011. Our mids and flankers are small and weak and get pushed off the ball too easily. I'm comfortable with Woosh at the helm. But there needs to be a re-think with how we approach next season.

Waters is in our best 10? Whenever he plays all he does is turn the ball over and this entire board calls for that to be his last game :rolleyes:
 
I think it is quite clear that mistakes were made with our physical preparation and game plan during the pre season, our form this season can not be purely based on injuries, it has been poor from our very first NAB cup game. This is why I don't think it's a bad idea to keep Woosha on, he's obviously made mistakes and he will know where they've been made and will be able to make the necessary changes. Changing coaches isn't always the answer eg Carlton.

The other problem is who would the new coach be? Paul Roos is paying $1.50 to be the coach of Brisbane. Eade $2.00 to be the coach of Melbourne

Do we really want to replace Woosha with Williams, Laidley or Ratten? If we want Roos we need to tell Woosha right now and get the cheque book out before there's noone left to sign. Brisbane have played it smart!

Of course Woosh, Roos and plenty of others were unknown quantities before they were appointed as senior coaches. I'm sure there are plenty of similar unknown quantities out there now.

This idea that we keep Woosh cos we are scared of who we replace him with is pathetic.

Hinkley is a good example, not unknown so to speak, but untested at the helm. I think he's done a great job with Port; they can only improve (I liken their journey to Freo's, a year to adjust then a year to really put a particular style of play into action).

Lack of a skills coach for who? Which players in particular would benefit from having a skills coach? We're talking about a group of experienced, highly paid professional full time players here not a bunch of kids. If they haven't got the necessary skills to succeed at their profession then they shouldn't be on the list.
I would've thought that there is enough experience in the coaching group to provide any skills coaching that is required. Maybe we should be taking an in depth look at the coaching group as a whole starting at the top.
The facts of the matter are that the club is obviously in need of a change of personnel both in the coaching and playing group, the Worsfold message is stale and his pathetic excuses are unacceptable. Let's not stop there, the Administration and the Board also need a jolt. Do any of them have any balls, do we ever hear from any of them apart from Cransberg? Do all the Board members and Nisbett agree with his comment that Worsfold can stay as long as he's happy to do so? How many of the board members have any knowledge or experience in running a football club or for that matter knowledge of football in general? The opinion that because someone is perceived to be a successful business person or someone of influence such as politicians, they are ideal to be on the Board of a major sporting organization is just so much bullshit. Our Board is a classic example of this.
Have a look through the never ending list of staff members at the Club and see how many have been there too long not to mention those that fall into the category of 'jobs for the boys and girls'. Have a real good look at the List Management and Recruiting Staff and see how many DUDS we've got on there.
The media talks about clubs needing and going through a rebuild phase, I haven't read any media comment about us needing one, not that you'd expect the Worst Australian to come out and say so.
Our club is currently going backwards and unless those responsible take the necessary action to address the areas of concern we will continue to go backwards.
 
I've never left at half time before, was so dam depressing since I was so pumped for the game. But Woosha will get a contract on a silver platter for meeting none of the KPIs set at seasons start. There is no accountability. We are a powerhouse side everywhere except execution on the field and that should fall on the coach. There's no excuses. Unless we decided on a tank this year, and unless a 2011 turn around is all part of the plan then Woosha needs to go, and go today. Every day we waste, the less chance we have of securing a decent experienced coach.

Clearly based on our current excellent position for a tilt at the flag and his awesome ability to rebuild a side to premiership contenders this season. Don't forget that he said it would be this year we win a flag again. The last two years were contenders apparently but clearly unable to defeat the best midfield brigades due to his undying faith in priddis and 5 foot midfielders.

The club is in the worst state it has ever been in its history including the drug fiasco in 2007. We are playing like a GWS but not being one. Our injury toll is not a coincidence. There is clearly something wrong with our fitness staff.

The belief in john worsfold by the club borders on insanity. EVERY other club would have sacked him by now. In fact I would say he has held his job simply because he has had a tough personal life this year and his mates in nisbett and co. Don't want to make it worse.

Personally I am embarrassed by him being out coach and am not looking forward to where our club will be next year if he remains. It will take a miracle akin to snaring Another cousins and Judd in this years draft to fixing some of the problems.

Port were at rock bottom, so it wasn't exactly a roll of the dice to take on an untried coach. I guess we will have to come to the admission that we ARE approaching rock bottom. I'm not sure our administration is brave enough to make that kind of decision, they will want to give Woosh another chance.

Port had been down for a while. We're an A380 that lost engines at 42,000 feet; that is worse, I think.

I didn't hear anyone say keep the coach after the bombers win. In fact I just heard a lot of people annoyed by the fact because it meant Woosha is more likely to keep his job.
 
our mid field and half back is decimated. NN is profoundly important.

Given that we haven't had bite (call it what you like - aggression, effort, zest, enthusiasm, G&T) from the first Nab Cup game. something went wrong over summer.
I am open to all rumours, philosophies and theories.
