- CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says he'll "keep the foot down" rather than rest players in the lead-up to the club's first finals tilt in eight years.
Carlton, which plays Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, has won eight of its past nine and remains an outside chance to sneak into the top four.
"We'll put our best team out there," Ratten said.
"We're at a point where we would like to keep that momentum up because I think it builds confidence and that confidence is a big thing going into finals, with the belief factor, so we'll put the best team on the park.
"I think we just need to focus on Melbourne. We need to make sure we don't have a slip-up. We need to keep the foot down and keep the momentum swinging our way."
Ratten said the fact a finals spot had been secured for the first time since 2001 on the back of a now-infamous pre-season marketing campaign, gave the Blues no right to think their work was done.
"I think when you set the bar a little bit higher than you did the previous year maybe there's, not relief, but maybe there's a bit of an accomplishment achieved," he said.
"But as we've said, the journey in 2009 goes until you finish playing and that was an ambition of ours to play finals. OK, we've ticked that box, but we don't start organising holidays or doing half the work . . . we just see how far this journey will take us.
"There's been an upbeat feeling around the place . . . but we've been quick to point out that when you pop your head up in this game it gets knocked off pretty quickly."
