With the upcoming World Cup just months away and with only a couple of ODI series before it, I was wondering your views on the Australian squad.

My 15 is:
1. Shane Watson
2. Brad Haddin (wk)
3. Ricky Ponting (capt)
4. Michael Clarke
5. Cameron White
6. Michael Hussey
7. James Hopes
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Nathan Hauritz
10. Doug Bollinger
11. Shaun Tait

12. Ryan Harris
13. Steven Smith
14. Callum Ferguson
15. Clint McKay

My bolters for the team are:
1. Brett Lee
2. Shaun Marsh
3. Tim Paine
4. Josh Hazelwood
5. Mark Cosgrove

Your thoughts.

I get the feeling Cosgrove has burned too many bridges to play for Australia regardless of how many runs he makes. Certainly the condition he is in doesn't help his cause.

If Hauritz has an ordinary one day summer, maybe Doherty as a bolter. Been excellent in the one dayers for a number of years now.

You spend four years building for the World Cup - unless someone is absolutely banging down the door in state cricket you don't drop a proven performer in good form just before the Cup regardless of age.

Whats the obsession with youth
The guy is one of the only ones scoring runs in ODI's, why change that for a young player who may struggle

Ferguson would struggle? You seen his ODI record? Sean Marsh can do Hussey's role just as well.

I'm sorry, but neither Marsh or Ferguson could be the number 3 ranked ODI batsman in the world

You select your best 11 to win a world cup, and i would tend to think that the number 3 in the team of the year, and the number 3 ranked ODI player in the world, would be in our best ODI 11, regardless of age

Look at Haydens 2007 world cup

Silly to say Hussey should be axed. Not a chance. He is a gun and has killed it in ODI and 20-20 this year. Ponting and Clarke would go before Hussey based on output.

that's bombersno1 for you!

Off the top of my head. 14 the same as you but I believe one of Hopes and Smith will go for Paine, unless they willing to have Hussey as the back-up keeper. I want Hopes to be cut but it'll probably be Smith

I still rate Lee as being in our attack...but I'm just gonna presume he'll be injured.

12. James Hopes
13. Callum Ferguson
14. Brett Lee
15. Shaum Tait

Last two spots are still up for grabs, maybe another spinner or a batsmen. Finch is coming along nicely lately so he could be a bolter. O'Keefe seems to be effective and Doherty as mentioned earlier. Another could be Mitch Marsh if he can keep his form going.

I don't think the selectors will make any big brave decisions. Unless injury or form in next couple series plays a major part the squad won't change much to the one we've had consistently the past year.

I'd rather see Callum Ferguson in there than Michael Clarke. He can hit boundaries AS WELL as rotate the strike.

Clarke's inability to hit boundaries in the slog overs was a real worry in England. He'll sink our ship come the World Cup. Captaining 20/20 has seemed to make him worse instead of better at it.

lol @ Haddin opening I forgot that the selectors do that, what a joke do they think he is Gilly or something? Drop Clarke, drop Hauritz, not sure about Tait but probably keep him in.

Put in Ferguson, Smith, and Harris.

By the way whatever happened to Bracken, did he officially retire or just drift away?

And who exactly would you open with instead? and if we play Hopes and Smith in the same team we will lose every game. neither player can be depended on bowling 10 overs (although Hopes is close) and neither player can be depended to play a good innings. You're allowed one bit-part all-rounder in a team, but not two.

anyway, first stage of Lee's comeback is underway. Good start.

I'm picking the injury will strike in mid Decemeber

ANYBODY other than Haddin. I just don't rate the guy he is not the sort of bloke that is going to bat the opposition out of the game at the top, nor can he be relied upon to build a solid platform. He is a decent ODI batter to be coming in at 6 or 7.

When Watson and Warner are playing they are the obvious openers and they are match winners. With Watson out I'm not exatly sure.

I don't think it is that big a problem to have Smith and Hopes in the same team, Smith is a good enough batsman and fielder to get into the ODI team with only a minimal bowling contribution. Either way Hopes cannot be dropped he has been great.

I've always been a believer that you first analyse your talent and then you pick your team structure. You don't have to follow strict structure rules like "We must have x amount of spinners, x amount of left handers and must only play x amount of all rounders". Your structure should largely be based on the talent you have, it's the same with AFL and any sport.

Only spot for Clarke would be openers role, hit out or get out.
That's not how he bats (not since he was dropped and told to tighten his technique). He pretty much just nudges ones and two's these days rather than hit through or over the in-field like he did at the start of his career. Great runner between the wickets but his stroke play is very ordinary for someone with his average.
