Something seriously rotten with the Socceroos. After the bright start it's being a slow death march....

Tactics and team selection looks like GA is desperate to get the axe so he can go coach in Asia.

The only question is will it be this week or next?

Our only hope is for set pieces and lots of them, as it's our only avenue to goal.

I think the road ends here against a team with home ground advantage however if we can pinch the win we might have a chance against Peru as we've played in the middle east in some games during qualification. Missing out might lead to actual meaningful changes tho. However starting 2026 its a 48 team format and I seriously doubt we'll ever miss qualifying again.

The fact coaches havent come to the realisation leckie isnt up to this standard is shocking but i guess no one else is banging on the door. If we lose this, no one over 25 should be in the squad for the next 4 years. Clean it out completely and start again

How are we favs with the bookies?!

I give us about a 40% chance at best against UAE and zero chance against Peru if we get through to play them.

4am start, bah. Will have to do be up for it given the importance of the match but still pretty brutal.

There is no chance we are making the last real World Cup with that squad.

Mooy is going to start apparently. Hasn't played a club game for 6 months, so not sure i'm thrilled with that. Imagine he sits deep whilst Hrustic and Irvine do the hard running. No way he lasts 120 minutes if it goes to ET.

Our best chance is to fluke one from a set piece early on to stop them rolling around and wasting time for penalties.

Feels like it's better for us going fowards if we lose and fail to qualify for the WC
Yep. Fire Arnold, put in a proper process and invite Bielsa to be part of it, and if he gets the job, give him the full cycle to train his replacement after the next WC.

The fact we haven't tried a 3-4-3 basically ever (with a false 9) with the current squad is an indictment on Arnold.

I keep thinking this too but making a World Cup far out weights the negatives of not. It is such a big deal for the sport here in terms of attention, support, sponsors and finances that we just can't afford to miss out and loss all that no matter how poorly we perform at the finals.

Can't stay up to watch this but if we win this and Peru Albo needs to reinstate knighthood just for Arnie

Does Arnie even keep his job if we do fluke our way in? I’d like to think not. Becomes a lot more attractive to candidates as well.

I reckon if we miss we will find it hard going watching in December and all having to pick a second team.

If he gets to Qatar, I would say he has earned the right to coach us in the tournament..

The current problems with the Socceroos/National Team run far deeper than Arnie IMHO.

The squad is a bunch of duds compared to when the likes of Viduka, Kewell, Moore, Neill, Chipperfield, Schwarzer, Bresciano, Cahill, Aloisi, Grella were running around. Emerton would be a star in this team which says a lot.
