Nick Ries couldn't play football.

You're right about Lone. Both twins were not up to scratch.

It was a pitiful period at Hawthorn. The consensus at the time was to recruit athletes and turn them into footballers.

HA

We finally came to our senses and sacked Schwab. Groupthink architect Ian Dicker left as did the rest of the lame sheep from that era, we recruited footballers instead and started doing better.

However, the positive group thinkers on the Hawthorn board would be upset with me for posting this

Speaking of groupthink, whilst Nathan wasn't too flash, Ryan at Collingwood was a more than handy player. Had an excellent game in the 2002 grand final as well (so did Josh Fraser) which was as tough an armwrestle I've seen yet you still get the herd mentality parroted on that they were woeful players.

Ryan Lonie had far better foot skills than the majority of our early 2000's side to go with an extremely penetrating left boot. Could have been a gun as far as being an attacking defender goes but I've never seen a player so scared of contact. One of the softest players to ever find themselves on an AFL list let alone play in grand finals.

Pretty sure a few of the Lions blokes voted him as the games most courageous player one year just to take the absolute piss.

Anyone who mentions Firrito has no idea.

For North.

1. Shannon Watt. He came in to the club and was nicknamed Goose (i.e. junior 'Duck'). Problem was he couldn't kick, or use the ball effectively. So he got shunted to the backline. He was short and had beach muscles but would get monstered by big forwards. I recall Gehrig eating him up and shitting him out on more than 1 occasion. He was quick when he got going, but required 10 metres to get into stride and could not turn. Did not poll a Brownlow vote in 155 games. He reminds me of the shitful Laidley era of Sam Power and 14 taggers. I searched in youtube for his highlights; there are none, a Bruno Mars carpool karaoke video is the 4th hit.

2. Shane Clayton would run up and down the wing, get the ball and pump in his 30 metre helicopter balls while Carey looked on with disgust.

3. Robin Nahas. Gave everything, tackled like a demon but was an absolute butcher with the ball.

Jed Anderson is the worse kick of a football I have ever seen; I don't want to see him on this list.

Edit: Jed's a gun.

Quite rare that a player's post footy life is equally as horriffic as his playing footy life.

Israel Folou or whatever his name is, is hands down the worst player by far I seen play in a game at league level.
He really had no idea what he was doing. Beyond a joke how bad he was.
Good for him he went back to a sport he actually can play at an elite level.
funniest thing about that! he was one of the best players playing in the NRL, tried AFL he failed & now he is breaking records in the Union

Surprised no one has mentioned Kepler Bradley. High first round draft pick and made an absolute mess of himself in the 2007 ANZAC day game. One of the worst individual games I've ever seen.

Firrito. He went to ungodly levels of spud.

Chris Masten and Chris Mayne are the two standouts of the current players. Just poor, poor footballers.
lol Masten? True he's not great and never will be, however there are at least 50 players playing AFL currently who are worse

Can't remember. Sure there are whipping boys who realistically are on the cusp and just can't make it/may make it elsewhere/just don't fit the demographic at the time. (i.e. Get drafted to the premiers/a side contending and can't break into the side. Then when the window shuts they are delisted to make way for the new kids).

The true spuds get delisted after 2 years and are lucky to maybe get a handful of games.
