I think that after the condition GFC is in now vs the condition it was in when he arrived, no one can be angry at Brian Cook. Period. Ever.

i dont understand all the bitterness and disagreement people have with demetrious tenure as CEO. he did the game wonders. just look at how healthy a position the competition is in right now. financially the game is as strong as its ever been. The guy is a great business man period, has done nothing but expand the game and its wealth.

i have come to the conclusion anybody that dislikes the state demetriou has left the AFL in must be a labor party voter

Agree, daz. No Cat should wish Cooky anything but our best should he get a promotion of this nature. Wouldn’t have been so comfortable had he accepted a demotion by going to North though.;)

He would put a positive stamp on the role as he has with both us and the WCE. Perhaps the first task could be to appoint a firm of management consultants to have a gander at what appears to be a bloated outfit.

Not sure that will be high on Gillon’s bucket list as he’s been a crucial part of the decisions which have led to the burgeoning.

Time for another gif JUBJUB. Something incorporating irrelevance would be good.:D

Hey presto!

Cook has enough credits with us that any decision he made would be the correct decision for him and the club.
Wonder who'd take over his role with us?
Micky Mansfield....

not really but isn't he setting himself to get on the board? could get groomed and work his way towards the gig? pretty sure he runs a succesfull business at present doesn he?

I really have no idea by the way

I'd of thought Steve Hocking actually. He was in the Footy Dept and has now moved to the more paper and managerial side to become more rounded I reckon in the running of the clubs in general. For mine but have type experience to move up the ladder and doing it with Cookie still holding the steering wheel would be the best situation all round….

I was thinking of him when I typed as well actually. Think I remember reading that him moving into the other side of the organization was a grooming move for the gig

IMO, Cook should have been selected as the AFL CEO 11 years ago.

I doubt the AFL will choose him over the current 2IC clown, but would be very happy to be proved wrong!

Cooky would be crap as the AFL chief and should remain at Geelong as CEO.

McLachlan is a shoo in, so Cook will be staying. Not saying he isn't qualified to be the AFL CEO, just McLachlan already has the commission and most of the AFL presidents on his side.
What are the criteria for the job?
Ex- Player? Not always, rarely perhaps.
Availability?
Knowledge of all things AFL and financially savvy?

The ideal candidate is BOMBER THOMPSON.
Ex player and coach
Will be available 2015.
Very well financially set up.
Great knowledge of AFL things.
I'm almost serious about this on reflection.
Would certainly be more interesting interviews and Brownlow readouts.

And the rest of the Commissioners would very soon look more like decent representatives of a man's sport.

I think Brian Cook would make an awesome CEO for the AFL. He's been the best club CEO for over 10 years now, how he has turned our club around in that time has be astonishing really, considering we where on the brink of being instinct.

Would be the best man for the job by miles, the commission would be stupid not to look at him.

Very long odds, needs more experience in the commercial world and needs to develop political nous - think of how Cook has played the various political parties to help deliver results on the new infrastructure. The club does have a succession plan, and I suspect plan A would be to entice Stuart Fox back, but that would be unlikely to succeed. The outstanding candidate within the club would appear to Rob Threlfall, although the club have also put their faith in Rosie King who took over for a month whilst Brian was on study leave. Chances are they will recruit externally.

Pretty much agree with all that. Wouldn't rule out Fox returning though.

King would be at huge odds. My recollection was Threlfall filled in for part of the time Cooky was at Harvard and Balme and Hocking were offered the other spot but declined.

Anyway, although Cooky would be a great selection as CEO he is more likely to get the 2ic role as I reckon Gillon is already measuring up the office.;)

I agree with you, but thought the idea was to keep it quiet so that he doesn't leave us;)

But seriously, he'd star wherever he went. Great CEO, seems to be a person with terrific qualities.
