I know my fellow bombers supporters are going to eat me alive. But would you trade Scott Lucas if another club came knocking with a draft pick between 15-24. Personally, with all the problems our list has got, we have no chance of a premiership in the next 2-3 years, while a valuable draft pick early 2nd round could unearth a potential quality player. Btw, not interested if you dont think he is worth that pick, but simply from an essendon point of view.

We should never trade our champions. If we want loyalty from our players we have to shjow them loyalty in return if they give us as much as Lucas has. All this crap about following Hathorn's lead really gives me the sh**s, they haven't won a flag yet and there are no guarrentees they will, neither have St Kilda who took a similer road and have come up with nothing.

fair point, i still reckon clarko did the right thing in trading jono hay for two late first round picks and thommo for a similar deal (cant remember exact details), he identified players who he thought as crucial to the next premiership. imo, if you dont stock up on higher draft picks then you would need to have a bloody good recruiting staff to pick out gems with mid-range picks. Btw, i thought we should have traded JJ to the Dees when we had the chance instead of offering two years. Reckon we should give lucas one year or trade him.

Jono Hay was never a champion of Hawthorn...seriously, why can't people grasp this concept?

Trade him. Hard cos he is a bomber through and through. He's our best player bar Fletcher. But he won't be here next premiership. Has value for a guy of 30's. Makes me sick to say it, but trade him. Reality is we need to rebuild, and development with two new teams coming in taking the avenue for talent in the future beyond next years draft is narrow.

I do feel sick saying it.

Quite simply, no.

Not only would it take away from the culture of the club, but it puts immediate pressure on a youngster to fill his spot.

Our veterans are as important as ever at the moment as it's those guys that'll teach our youngsters to play good football.

Neagle and Gumbleton will still get chances with Scotty around, and they won't have to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.

And for a pick between 15 and 24? There's a good chance we'd lose out more in the long run.

Would prefer to trade Lloyd... Lucas champion of our club, would be insulted for the man if we traded him and would be very ashamed of our board/coaching departments.

wat it wouldnt b an insult if we traded our captain and champion of our club lloyd. personally wouldnt trade either.

That is ridiculous:mad:

Is Lloyd not a champion of the club?

Would you not be ashamed if our captain/top 10 goalkicker ever was traded?

If I was forced to trade one it would be Lucas.

And regarding the topic, there is no chance that Essendon would trade for a 15-24 pick. I am positive that trading Lucas would be a last resort. Lucas did say he would love to be a one club player and coupled with the fact that Knights said he won't trade Lucas I think we will see him play out his career at Essendon. Neagle and Gumbleton will thoroughly enjoy the presence and Lucas/Lloyd around them for the next couple of years. Will learn plenty off them.

Is there really room for lucas, lloyd, neagle, gumbleton all in the forward line? I really rate neagle as a future prospect, while gumbleton is a big ball of potential, I think they need games at senior level.

Players concentrate on their own games. It is up to the various coaches to advise and fix any technical deficincies. Keep lloyd and let the youngsters learn off him.

As for culture of the club: essendon is a super strong club and i agree we should show loyalty to all our staff (and i am firm supporter of knights). But if lucas was to agree that it was in his best interests to go for a premiership as well, then who loses out? (and yes it is a big if) I certainly dont think sacking lucas or forcing him out to be traded would be good for the club at all.

It would take a hell of a lot more than pick 15 to even consider trading Lucas. Even then I still wouldn't do it as it certainly hurt the clubs culture and his replacements are nowhere near ready yet.

Keep him, although i would ask and bring up the idea with scotty that essendon were very open to the idea if he was approving to trade him to a team ie bulldogs where he might win another flag before he retires. If he wants to be a 1 club player as he has inidcated give him 2 years with the second year based on meeting certan requirements and highly performance based, more a 1 year contract with a option on the seocnd for scott to take.

Therefore if age takes effect next year, the follwoing year will still be on the list but very cheaply and be used more to teach the future fwds ie gumby and neagle bout the position and afl footy.
