Would you do the deal?

also 1 of the main reasons for those for the idea is holding back gumby and neagle, but lucas i believe is fairly flexible in the positions he can play in ff, chf, chb and possible even a richo wing - hff type roll.

No, not for one pick in the 15-24 region. Having said that, every player has a price, and if a club offered a fair price, we would have to consider it no matter who the player is.

Not for a pick 15-24 I wouldn't. Top 10 pick and a player, then I'll think about it. Maybe Buchanon + sydney's first rounder. That would be about the mark. Anything less is ridiculous.
For someone who is 31 and ageing? Listen, Lucas will not win you another premiership that is a fact and you will have no chance in hell of getting a first round draft pick out of anyone with the new licences coming in. If he was drafted you would get a second round pick for him which for his age is what he is worth anyway.

I would not get worried though, I am sure he will sign a 1 year deal with you guys.

Im generally against trading champions of the club. However if Scotty was chased by a club who was in serious premiership contention (eg Bulldogs) then I wouldnt begrudge him the chance to win a second flag.

I would want more than pick 15-24 though. I would be after probably that and a 3rd rounder.

He is 30. 17 year olds are also ageing.

No it isn't.

That remains to be seen.

If the pick was better than 15-24 and we would get a decent young player in the deal probably yes, Lucas would (hopefully) get a chance to win a premiership and kids like Gumbleton and Neagle would get a decent run at CHF. Just look at what happened to Travis Cloke after he got an opportunity at CHF when Tarrant left

Adam McPhee's an All-Australian

HAHA! SNAP!
I could mark a ball with two of those giant foam hands on better than McPhee these days.
If he had have caught that and kicked it we may not have lost today. that was THE swing in momentum.

My view on it is we will not be in a postion to challenge for a premiership any time in the next two or three seasons so serious questions have to be asked.
I would not simply trade Lucas , or Lloyd for that matter , away for any old pick but if someone was desperate to offer a reasonably good deal then you would have to seriously think about it. The same goes for a number of others on the list.
We needs some serious rebuilding so you have to look at all options.

Exactly my feeling. And everyone bagged me last year when I said we should have traded him to the Dogs for their pick5. I would think that would be a good deal. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I love Lucas as much as the next bloke but it will be 4-5 years before we are a premiership side again and Lucas will not be in that side. I wouldn't trade Lloyd.

I am disgusted that Essendon supporters would even entertain the thought of trading Lucas or Lloyd unless it was on their request. These are two players who have poured their hearts and souls into the club and shown immense loyalty. They deserve every bit of that loyalty and more in return. I don't care if it is for the first pick in the draft, if Scott Lucas wants to finish his career with the bombers, then the club and EVERY supporter should support that 100%.

The culture of the club is more important than picking up a youngster in the draft no doubt...I'd keep him, but Lloyd on the other looks like his time is running out to be honest, he looks very slow and his kicking isn't anywhere near as sharp as it used to be...

Yes.

I think our forward line with Gumby, Neagle, McPhee, Daniher will go alright over the next few years.

Any pick <30 and I'd take it.

People will get over it pretty quickly if we draft a good kid in his place.

The fabric and culture of the club is changing - no Hird, Sheedy, Bolton. Its a new era with a new bunch of people and we need to get on board.

We lost players like Merrett, Wanganeen and Hardwick in the past and we've recovered.

I know my fellow bombers supporters are going to eat me alive. But would you trade Scott Lucas if another club came knocking with a draft pick between 15-24. Personally, with all the problems our list has got, we have no chance of a premiership in the next 2-3 years, while a valuable draft pick early 2nd round could unearth a potential quality player. Btw, not interested if you dont think he is worth that pick, but simply from an essendon point of view.

I would love to grab him in the PSD he is my all time fav bombers player

could we at least wait until gumby plays more than 3 games in a row before we ship lucas and lloyd off??

hawthorn showed one thing.. it helps to keep one or two of the old timers around for stability (crawford etc) than go the carlton approach of having no-one to help the young kids coming through..

nothing can buy experience.. having lucas around on the half forward line will help take some of the defensive pressure off gumby and others.. much easier for gumby to learn his trade on the 3/4th defender rather than the 1st!!

We aren't shipping both off. We'll still have Lloyd around to help the youngsters. We can't have Lloyd, Lucas, Neagle, Gumbleton in the same forward line.

We have enough experience to help the kids out. Fletch in defence. Hille and McVeigh in the middle and we now have a core which is 22-25 by next year - Watson, Stanton, Winderlich, Lovett, McPhee, Slattery, NLM.

The thing is, Gumbleton and Neagle are going to develop a lot more easily alongside Lloyd and Lucas.

They don't have to play 22 games each next year. Rotate them through the side and let them practice being the 'main man' at Bendigo. Chances are that Lloyd and Lucas won't play every game, we could even rest them every once in a while. That leaves them both with games tallies in the teens, and ample experience. If we want to keep them in the side, depending on the form they show, we could also give them a go down back every once in a while.

Keeping Lucas isn't going to put a stop sign in front of their development. If anything, it'll ease their transition into football.

I'd like to see us sign Scotty for one year and not two, but I don't want us to trade him, especially for anything less than a top 15 pick. The damage that that could do could be very costly, and for a player that may never be anything.
