Politics Wuhan Coronavirus (COVID-19): The politics thread

The US is a weird one, as much as people want to lump this all on Trump, their populations entire world view and attitude towards government was never going to allow them to be locked down or have their freedoms curtailed for the greater good.

What we’re seeing now is likely something that would have happened irrespective of who the President was, we’d just get less memes about it.

Trump can say whatever he likes about reopening the economy, but I just can’t see how it happens on May 1st given what’s going on there at the moment, no way do they have a lid on this in ~ 2-3 weeks.

But again, it’s driven by their population and their obsessive desire with freedoms and economy. He’s selling normality and many people there will believe him, and would actively want it to happen even.

Research led by the University of Barcelona showed the presence of the virus in samples of wastewater in Barcelona in March 2019 .... *

How about flu rate overseas? Any news there?

Not sure for overseas, but in Australia it's a huge drop year-on-year. The stats can be seen at http://www9.health.gov.au/cda/source/rpt_3.cfm and https://www.immunisationcoalition.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/22Jun-Aust-Flu-Stats-2020.pdf

We were trending to have a similar year as last, which was considered a bad year. As you can see from the stats we had very similar numbers for the Flu in Jan and Feb 2020 as we did in Jan and Feb 2019. So far for the month of June 2020, Australia wide, we've had 138 cases of lab confirmed flu cases compared to 57937 for June 2019.

My understanding is each person getting tested for covid-19, has their sample tested for flu as well.

It's incredible how this simple piece of arithmetic has failed to register with the dullards on this board.

another professional calling out the BS

Yes yes conspiracy, deep state, doctors destroying the world, George Soros. Got it :thumbsu:

This pandemic like any pandemic is measured by the mortality rate, that is the over riding, over arching concern - the amount of deaths.

We were initially told 5%

then WHO told us 3.4%

which became 3%

then 2%

then around 1%

then around 0.5%

now the CDC estimates 0.26%

that number will drop again, i have no doubt

so covid 19 is 20 times less lethal than what we were told and locked down on

the latest CDC estimate is ball park flu levels and not worthy of locking down on

you are more likely to die from the flu if you are a kid, pregnant or anyone aged under 65/70

not sure how any of that is conspiratorial

it seems more likely you are the one mired in conspiracy

What happens when you ignore the experts...

The global total of known coronavirus cases hit a bleak total of 10 million overnight, but its spread could have contained and tens of thousands of lives could have been saved if the world had paid attention to one team of scientists in Germany.

Back in January, a Munich team discovered that the virus was spreading between people with no symptoms but the world wasn’t listening to them.
Health officials and political leaders played down or denied the risk of symptomless spreading, while leading health agencies including the World Health Organisation often provided contradictory and misleading advice.

Dr Camilla Rothe — who is an infectious disease specialist at Munich University Hospital — told the New York Times she was told by experts around the world, despite her discoveries, that only people with symptoms could spread the coronavirus.

“People who know much more about coronaviruses than I do were absolutely sure,” she said.

listen from 17.00 or so on for a couple of minutes, ....

i would be interested to know how scientists actually discovered a virus spreading that had no symptons and then managed to pass it on

incorrect, the dullards stick with all the tired old WHO and MSM incorrect mortality rates that push the hysterical narrative.

Also incorrect around infection rates.
If the mortality rates are lower than being reported than the infection rates have to be higher. You get this is basic maths right? Unless ofcourse you have gone cockoo crazy and denying the deaths of people being buried in the ground as some sort of lizard people flat earth conspiracy.

you just haven't payed attention one iota, the latest CDC figure is 0.26%,

look at the fatality rate 0.004 (0.4) its best case scenario, not lowest case scenario

then this .....

that is not even working on any assumption about how they count corona deaths!!

none of that is conspiracy, its cold clear info from the highest authority on the subject in the US

that is ball park flu mortality rates

128 thousand deaths in usa divided by 2.6 million infections gives you a mortality rate of 4.9 percent. You can make a case infections are multiple fold higher while deaths are only a small amount higher. But that doesnt change how deadly the disease is. Well actually it makes it a tad more deadly. And thats if we ignore the fact that if we measured covid deaths in the same way as flu deaths then covid deaths would be multiple times higher.

There are sick people in the US who don't bother presenting to hospital gven many are overrun and the cost involved.
If anything, this crisis has shown just how important universal healthcare is as a national policy.

Absolutely serious delusion happening with this post, the CDC says you are so far wrong it is not funny.

if you have complaints about the mortality rate contact them, its their rate and that is 0.26

And that is ball park flu mortality rate no matter what you believe or post.

What is this?
Expo Centres?
Convention Centres?
I don't know about you but when I am considering being admitted to hospital I don't immediately think oh well now I'm off to the local Bunnings.
However, you must have a very different experience of what health is.

These field hospitals were constructed or buildings fitted out for the pandemic but never used or rarely used because they were not needed because hospitals in most places were not over run.

i thought it was pretty easy to follow!.

if the hospital was full and you were crook why would you complain?

Then why not provide statistics about the actual hospitals? Makes too much sense?

if you are that interested do it yourself, they can't have been to bad as the field hospitals were rarely used
Just because patients aren't spilling out into the carpark doesn't mean a hospital isn't flat out.
Any professional medical person would do everything in their power to avoid that occuring.
