Part of the struggle of being a Marxist comedian, innit? Conforming in a nonconformist household in a conformist world, yeah? And he sold out his comrades and fellow proletarians anyway by doing that gig for Pot Noodles, right?

Doc and now Rik.

See Gary (Gus) Gilmour died yesterday. Early 60's.

So that's 3 well knows people on the last week. That's bloody enough I reckon.
It has been great to look back at some of Rick's great work.

And now we add Jim Keays to the list. Just stop already!

RIP Rik, thank you for making me laugh for so many years.

Found this statement from Adrian Edmondson:
"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard."

Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson were the British Odd Couple in Bottom but with a lot more booze, grime and violence.

A lot of people remember them from The Young Ones which is great but their best work was in Bottom imo.

That Bottom comedy series still holds up well today, the Young Ones as groundbreaking as it may have been back in the early 80s, looks dated.

The best music and comedy doesn't date, Monty Python is as sharp and relevent today as they were in 1971.

Bottom was filmed in the 90s but you couldn't pinpoint that series to a time like you could with the Young Ones in the 80s. Richie and Eddie just wore drab overcoats and clothes in a dull drab apartment, it was just about the comedy and chemistry between them and it's brilliant, a UK comedy classic up there with Benny Hill and The Two Ronnies.

From his bio on IMDB:

A fan once wrote to him, asking for an autograph. In a hand-written letter, Rik replied "Here you are you cheapskate money-grabbing Welsh c*nt - where's the f*cking envelope you deformity?? [this first sentence was roughly crossed out] Here you are Daniel, thank you so much for writing. I hope you like the picture. Best wishes my dear friend. (Signed, 'Rik Mayall')".

I blame Alexei Sayle. Hugely funny guy, but he seemed a mismatch in Young Ones. Every scene with him dragged on, and made it a tad painful
Mussolini skit was the highlight.....
