Not 100% convinced on the loan thing for all players. Harry Winks hasn't gone out on loan but has trained with the first team for two years and he looks more ready once in the side than guys like Livermore, Mason or Townsend did after heaps of loans

Yeah nah we have Abraham, RLC, Christensen, Ake, Chalobah, Traore and I'm just scratching the surface

Theres no doubt we have some cracking youf coming through and our academy works. But until we start seeing these guys grab and hold a starting spot there is always going to be questions.

It's the last step for the club.

I can't think of any of our kids that have stood up and demanded to be playing regular first team football.

Maybe Maffeo would be getting a game now if he wasnt out on loan.

But I think ours should have had many more tastes than they have had. Be it in cups, or off the bench.

It's hard to tell a senior player that isnt getting enough game time that he's missing again to give a lid a chance.

I think the trend of wanting 2 top players for each position doesnt help and I favour us culling the senior squad down to 17/18.

At some stage with injuries, midweek games and suspensions your kids have to get a go.

Short term it might cost you occasionally (I don't think significantly) but long term you have the pathway.

Don't see what's wrong with what they said.
Chalobah has been Chelsea's only moderate academy success since Terry and City haven't produced anyone if note since Micah Richards.

Spurs, United, Everton and Southampton (I'm probably forgetting someone else too) produce bucketloads of quality players and yet City and Chelsea are hailed as the gold standard in youth development.

Honest question who have Spurs, United, Everton, Soton produced in the last 5 years who would be starting quality at City/Chelsea?

Not worried about squad players as we are producing enough if those. Hopefully guys like Ake, Christensen, Traore, RLC, Chalobah etc can make that next step and really start pushing for a starting spot.

Apart from Bertrand we really havent let any slip through our fingers. They just havent been good enough.

how do you know they haven't been good enough. They weren't given an opportunity.

To answer your question:
Michael Keane
Luke Shaw
Danny Rose
Harry Kane
James Ward-Prowse
Ross Barkley
Paul Pogba

Adjust your timeframe by a few years and thr number really starts ballooning out.

All I'm saying is that City's and Chelsea's academies are portrayed as the gold standard and yet neither club has produced 2/10ths of **** all in the last decade.

Kane, Dele, Rashford?

So really not much. Seems a real overrated issue. If they were good enough they would have gone on like Bertrand, who i reguard as really the only one weve missed over the last 5 years.

To me we should be using the academy to fill squad spots(which we now do) and hope to get lucky that one or two develops into a first teamer (which hasnt happened yet, fingers crossed for Christensen, Ake, Traore etc).

Only JWP & Shaw (due to injury) would be questionable. Give it another 12-24 months and you could probably throw in 2 of Walker-Peters, Winks & Onomah to that list from Spurs

7 players is overrated?

Yeah. Chelsea tried to buy Shaw so i included him.

It's not just about the amount that are Chelsea/City standard. It's the amount of EPL standard that other clubs produce in comparison.

Thinking for us guys like Townsend, Mason, Livermore, Caulker (at a stretch) who at least are playing good top flight football

7 starters given opportunities to play by their clubs. Something Chelsea and City haven't done regularly. Just think the youth narrative in England is hilarious.

Two of the seven had to leave their club because they couldnt get a game.

Did Keane and Pobga get given opportunities?

The only one thats annoyed me is Bertrand. Should be our starting LB. Im not saying our academy is great, but its also not as bad as some make out and it does seem to be bearing more fruit than ever before. We just need to use it.
