All thats missing is turning 2 or 3 into Chelsea first 11 players. A step we are struggling with.

With the talent you produce on a yearly basis, you'd think the hope would be a squad made up mostly of homegrown academy talent. I know that was Emenalo's ultimate aim with the academy and it was a pillar of Uniteds success under Sir Alex and a hallmark of Barcelona a these past 20 odd years.

I cant see that happening with the ambitions and owner we have.

2 or 3 senior players and developing most the academy into professional footballers who end up somewhere seems bit more realistic.

I think the football league should encourage more buyback clauses rather than loans. Especially in the 19-21 age. Would encourage sides to not stock pile and cut losses easier/earlier knowing they have the security of having the chance to buy them back. For the kids it gets them at a club who wants them long term and isn't just a stop gap loanee.

Missed this post, but you're not the only one. Look at how many players are from top flight teams in the Juniors and how many of those teams actually have English players that they didn't buy.

City has 2 in their first team squad
United - 4
Chelsea - 2
Liverpool - 4
Spurs - 3
Arsenal - 3
Burnley - 0
Leicester - 4
Everton - 6 (7 if you count Baines)

But that may even be slightly wrong as I just based it on the flags on wiki, some may be young and can still play for England like Beni Beningame

Why would you count Baines? You released him and he went to Wigan and then you bought him back.

He was at betis last year yeah?

Yeah, he got recalled because they didnt play him after Poyet(?) got sacked. Should have been sent elsewhere.

This season he should have played TBH plenty of games that he should have got opportunities in. Conte screwed him over.

Heard an interesting thing a few weeks back. Was about this requirement in England to have English kids break into top premier league teams. Can't remember who said it, but it was along the lines that Brazilians pack themselves off to Ukraine or Portugal to get experience of first team football.

British kids tend to sit back playing U23's and expecting to be given a chance. A lot are reluctant to even drop down a level in the English system.

Come to think of it, it might even have been a clip from the social I linked above (I've only watched the first 10 minutes or so).

Places like City and Chelsea are great places for a kid to develop but they shouldn't wait too long to move either on loan or permanent. Pretty easy for a 19-21 year old to stagnate otherwise.

I'd like to see them extend the number of substitutes on the bench with a minimum requirement for U21 or U23 players. That way clubs will have room for them on the bench and more inclined to give them experience if comfortably ahead or behind to see what they could do.

Yeah i like that. The kids could also choose to move to clubs that will give them first team opportunities.
