That is why Darren Berry never got a gig for Australia, he is the bext keeper in Australia in the last 25 years, even better than Ian Healy IMO.
Exactly. Berry was an exceptional keeper, none better. But he had nothing on Healy with the bat, hence why he didn't get a gig.

Gilchrist was never the best keeper in Australia, but he was the best keeper/batsman.

Don't be surprised if Mitch Marsh plays for Australia before he turns 21.
If he doesn't get drafted first

Myth.

Berry was a gun keeper no doubt, but you'd have trouble splitting him with the likes of Healy and Seccombe.

The fact that Berry was such a ******* with the bat also suggests he was slightly worse than Heals and Seccombe with the gloves (yes, being sarcastic...)

uh, but they are a very good indication, would you like me to delve deeper and get the byes and leg byes from each game as well now would you,

Not at all, as your a stats man I took the liberty for you.

Mathew Wade has let through 56 byes in 6 matches at an average of 9.2;

Tim Paine has let through 25 byes in 5 matches at an average of 5;.

I've also taken the liberty of going through the Sheffield Shield commentary on cricket.com.au this year here for dropped catches by the two in shield matches.

Here are the recorded dropped chances by Wade:

Over 36.6: McKay to O'Brien, no run, down leg side, glanced and maybe got a bit of bat on it, Wade drops it

Over 48.1: Harwood to Noffke, no run, DROPPED, Noffke forward to drive and gets an inside edge and Wade to his left puts it down

Finished

And here are the recorded dropped catches by Paine:

Finished

I have yet to go through the FRC matches to see If Paine has dropped any in those... but to be fair I wont find Wade there will I.

How's Josh Mangan going over in WA. There were huge wraps on him when he was a kid. Actually remember one newspaper article about 3-4 years ago rating our spin bowling stocks, it went Warne, McGill, Cullen, Mangan, above all the other spinners currently playing shield and this was when he was about 17/18.

Has he fallen off the track a bit not being able to get a game anywhere?

Made his debut in 08, but was only given three overs :confused:

Alister McDermott - 18 year old fast bowler and son of disgraced property developer, but champion fast bowler Billy the Kid! Steams in, has a strong action but at this stage is still only bowling medium pace at best. Has good control but his main issue is his relatively gentle pace when progressing to senior ranks. Should quicken up when he fills out a bit - very skinny kid.

Looked good in the 20/20 game this evening. 1/13 off 2 overs, pace has improved since I last saw him and it was quite a good delivery he dismissed Cam White with.

Yeah well I think by the end of his career he probably was the best keeper in the country, his glovework became excellent, didn't start off that awesome though. He would have swallowed the catch that Haddin didn't even attempt to catch yesterday off Bollinger.

Your on Fire!!

Paine is so much better accept it

The thing Gilly had was his height so he could get to a lot more balls. His keeping was decent enough especially compared to Haddin so far.

point taken, just to let you know, I have never stated that, Tim Paine is no good, in fact i think he is a good player, and may one day get a crack at the Aussie colors if he keeps improving. ;)

Jon Holland i think you're talking about. He's not a leggie, he's a left arm orthodox spinner.

There's also Clive Rose who played in the under 19 World cup recently, who is another left arm spinner who is also a Victorian.

Tim O'Brien from Footscray? Me and a mate were talking about him the other day, wondered if he'd kicked on or not, I haven't heard about him for a few years.

best young spinner in District Cricket in Victoria is Michael Beer, from St.Kilda C.C, a young (18 - 20) year old leggie who has taken a few wickets, and also ties the runs down, he is part of the cricket accademy with cricket victoria and the coach down there (simon helmot) speaks highly of the young talented right hander, i feel he is a better prospect than Clive Rose ( although I feel Clive is the better batsmen) Micahel Beer is the more talented bowler, Clive is more of a Daniel Vettori bowler, ties the runs down, here are some stats for you to ponder over.

Michael Beer (St.Kilda C.C)

BATTING::
11 Matches
8 Innings
2 Not outs
106 Runs
32 H.S
17.7 Average

BOWLING::
115.3 Overs
24 Maidens
15 Wickets
276 Runs against
3-13 Best Bowling
18.4 Average
46.2 Strike Rate
2.4 Economy

Clive Rose (Casey-South Melbourne C.C)

BATTING::
9 Matches
9 Innings
2 Not out
155 Runs
65 Highest Score
22.1 Average

BOWLING::
77 Overs
13 Maidens
7 Wickets
298 Runs against
1-21 Best Bowling
42.6 Average
66 Strike Rate
3.9 Economy Rate

So i think as the bowler, Beer is the better bowlers, anyone else think there are any good spinners in the local CV comp worth talking about.
