Young star considering boycotting draft

Pretty poor post.
Not only did you get McCartney wrong (it was Chambers), .

So you're saying the following quote from "The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers" is wrong?

"(McCartney) as a junior from Nhill, he had a huge reputation and there was tremendous controversy even before he was drafted as he told some clubs he would not play with them if they chose him."

Best you also give the AFL a call and tell them their historical records are incorrect.

He needs to "do a darling" (no pun intended) ... and do a darling... on a school camp

Put other teams off him and let him sliiiiiide down the drafting order

a "conjured" punch in the head maybe too? .. doesnt really need to get hit (unlike another) .. just feed some crap to the West Australian about some altercation and get a doctors note, story will spread like wildfire across Australia .... God knows journos dont mind lies and publishing more lies from a known liar .. cue school girl of the St Kilda variety

Him declaring he doesnt want to go to GWS is just the beginning if he really wants to stay in WA then <insert unfavourable story here> in the next few months, is it illegal? .. players tanking the draft .. has it happened before?

Let's see, Llane Spandeman could take him by the hand ......

He could "steal" another Black Duck's girlfriend ......

He could tell Tallen Ames to shut up .....

Seriously, this boy is a bit more mature than portrayed. Geez he was a very good WAFL premiership player at 16.

Well Coniglio was BOG today. IMO it was superior to what Swallow did as an under age player. Won the ball, linked up, kicked goals, layed tackles. Will go number one and will have to enter the draft and do the time with GWS.

Is an excellent leader as well.

Wasting your time mate, apparently Breakfast Point where the GWS guys are based is worse than the slums of Harlem

This. GWS boys will have more luxurious surrounds than any draftees in the country. The place is unbelievable.

Even if they WERE living in the far west the place isn't a slum, it's massively suburban. you'd be hard pressed finding a place without a double garage, pool and bug backyard.

And Ugg boots, flanny shirts and smokes stuffed in the top pocket, and then there's the stubbie shorts the guys wear.

So is it just GWS he doesn't want to go to? Or is it any team outside of WA?

Not sure.
To be honest, I don't know hardly anything about either Chambers or McCartney - I just went with all the other posters who said it was wrong.

My main point was that the Buckley situation was dead wrong, which I do know.

I don't really care, still a shocking post.

It was Brett CHALMERS who was banned for trying to influence the draft. Turned out he wasn't really worth all the fuss anyway.

Jason McCartney did say he would not like to be picked by Collingwood "because of their supporters" but he did not threaten not to go there if he was picked.

Murphy escaped criticism and rightly so - why therefore is there so much vitriol towards Coniglio?

Murphy got plenty of vitriol from some/one area. Brisbane supporters were (and still are) less than impressed. :D

Or GWS could just take Palmer and give them nothing (AFL conjures pick from thin air).

I remember that draft documentary, didn't Headland wear a fremantle cap to his draft interview with the Lions? It didn't help him.

Headland wore a Fremantle jumper to draft day. Close but yes, Lions still took him and got picks 3 and 19 for their troubles.

Agreed. If I had the chance to live in Breakfast Point, I'd jump at it. It'd trump most places around Oz.

well rioli played the Home sickness card and it worked for him...I know the crows have stated they passed on Rioli purely for potential go home factor.

Also, if the bennell drafting goes sour like it looks like it will, that might influence GWS and their drafting. Cant afford to have weak minded mummies boys in a young developing team that will spend time getting flogged each week early on

Yep, if I was GWS I would put the 3rd overall selection on the table and sell it for a bounty. Buyers will be lining up.
The problem though is that GWS can get any one player they want from an existing club for free! If they cant convince them with the extra money they have been given in the cap, then they're not going to get the player any other way, unless another Brisbane episode happens where several quality stars at the one club get badly mistreated by them and the all the players try to jump ship in a mass exodus.

Coniglio not wanting to go to GWS and Bennell wanting to leave GC. Not good looks.

Wonder if Coniglio would have the same view if it were a big Melbourne club that were struggling for a bit who had the high pick.

Coniglio's call

However, he scoffed at suggestions that possibility would influence his decision or that he had considered deferring his nomination for the draft until next year to avoid the Giants.

"I don't know where that rumour came from, but I can definitely deny that. That is definitely false," he says.

"I think it's pretty exciting, the expansion of the AFL with Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney.

"If I choose footy then to get the chance to play at any AFL club would be a real buzz. If I was lucky enough to get drafted it wouldn't bother me where I went."

Embarrassing reading some of the comments early in the thread.

Pretty much exactly why people shouldn't be so quick to jump the gun - a bit of scepticism when it comes to this sort of article is exactly what everyone should exercise!

Agree 100%.

Was excited being a fan of a WA team but refrained from jumping in the discussion because it just seemed like the article was poorly sourced and a little unlikely.
