Whats loyalty got to do with anything discussed here?!

Has faith in the players that he puts on the park week in week out will do the job, feel he has shown you work hard on the track and the feild then you will be rewarded, I just think that is important and that goes for any form of employment.

But whats that got to do with Massie being at Norwood or Doughty at South Adelaide next year

You have answered you own question you dont kick that many goals with out supply from good midfeilders.

Actually you would have to say that most of our successful attacking forays were made from the back lines this year (Johncock and McLeod off HB flank).

And I know this may be a very unpopular statement, but I believe that although Edwards and Goodwin got a lot of stats this year, their disposal was below their usual brilliant standard. I thought both of them made an enormous amount of clangers this year, and their decision making was often lacking. And aside from Goodie and Edwards, who else was there that stood up in the middle? Thommo was hot and cold, as was Reilly. Clarke played his heart out all year I thought, but he couldn't do it on his own.

All your teams will need to be changed after trade week anyway.
I understand Crows will draft (or try to) Archard from South Adelaide (and he will play and be a gun!)
Also Crows to trade (perhaps Thompson and someone else) to Port for Alipate Carlisle. Why? Carlisle to full back, Rutten forward!!!!! Sat behind the Crows scouting group at SANFL games on weekend and read their notes! Why else would they look intently at a PPower player??

What's with some people selecting Burton on a wing? He was so much more valuable to us this year, playing out of the forward line.

He usually starts on the wing and then drifts forward or back depending on the situation.

With his motor and versatility starting him on the wing basically gives him a license to do anything he wants - which is when he's at his best.

Maybe the Power are after a Crow player!! I'd agree that Archard and Carlisle performed well in the finals games this year.
I think a trade could be done with the Power for Carlisle but I hate naming players...it won't be Thompson.

never ceases to amaze how in every potential trade, no matter what, we give up 2 to get 1 back

I reckon we'll see pigs fly before either we trade Thompson or Port trade Carlisle. Both are essential to their respective club's future.

I agree....is it coincidental that our midfield was exposed this year with Burton and Mattner not on the wings to provide extra midfield pressure.

Don't remember our midfield being as exposed in 2005??

But our midfield in 2005 also had Hudson and Roo in there providing the grunt and some bite around stoppages.

You take out your best two in clearences and hard ball gets and you will be exposed.

Yeah Hudson was very important ...good point....and you don't replace Roos calibre of player easily.

But Burton was very important to our forward lines this year and successful......but we still not in a GF.....with a big reason being the inadequacies of our midfield.

So which do we strengthen first going into 07

Mattner to the wing, Huddo into the ruck, Burton as a roaming forward, Roo deep into the forward line with occasional run in the middle when needed.

I would push Johncock into the midfield and round it out with youngsters like Porplyzia, Douglas, Knights and Pfeiffer.

Hopefully Thommo and reilly can take a step up as well. Pfeiffer could surprise as that strong marking wingman.

Pfeiffer would imagine to strat of a HBF......IF Stiffy goes into the midfield who would take his small defender role that could also provide the rebound that Stiffy provided??.......Porplyzia?

Yeah good point, but I don't Pfeiffer will come in until about half way through next year IMO.

All the teams you guys have put together from the current Crow squad look like they lack something vital for premiership success

SPEED

Sure you have a couple of quick blokes, but there seems to be a lot more pedestrian paced guys that in the hurly burly of September action are usually found wanting

Obviously this year the back set him right back.....but in the games I saw I don't think there's any reason why he couldn't be up and about by the first game.

Couldn't agree more......it's an issue that no amount of spin doctoring can avoid.

We're fine ATM in the backlines with Macca & Johncock, but the midfield certainly nneds a couple....Douglas will help but I think we need another genuine quick inside midfielder.

Maybe we will go back to the future. Goodwin was on a HBF and Edwards in a back pocket in our last grand final win. New dawn in the midfield perhaps? Extend the careers of our two champions?

B: Edwards Rutten Bassett
HB: McLeod Bock Goodwin

Johncock and Mattner up the ground.

Not a bad suggestion ......but would we get better use from Edwards deep back or deep forward with hi goal kicking prowess??

I think Porplyzia will be rotated through the midfield and forward line.

If we move Bock back to CHB, surround him with Torney, McLeod, Bassett and one other player (preferably a youngster) there is a lot of rebounding ability there.

I would think that creating attacking opportunities from the midfield would be more important than creating them from defence. Johncock mush move to the midfield to give us that bit of pace and grunt needed in there.

I have always thought that Jezza would make a damaging HBF/Wingman. Maybe he will be the one that steps up and is in that 190 cm range that we have a bit of a shortage of.

How quick is Pfeiffer?
