There's been a lot of talk about the team for this years Ashes, and the general consensus is that we will be beaten fairly comfortably. However, what are peoples views on who will play in the 2016 England tour, and do you think we will have a better chance.

My team:
Warner
Hughes
Khawaja
Clarke
Burns
Henriques
Wade
Starc
Pattinson
Boyce
Cummins

Reserves
Bird
Smith
Doolan
Hartley
Agar
Rohrer
NCN

Will be interesting to look back on everyone's predictions in a few years time.

Cowan
Warner
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Khawaja
Wade
Agar
Faulkner
Pattinson
Starc

Doolan - Reserve Bat
Paine - Reserve 'keeper
Bird - Reserve quick
Boyce - Reserver spinner

Watson I think will still be around, Khawaja as well. Having a lot of faith in Teddy C as well ;) Went in very bias with the reserves as well but I do what I want!!

Most likely it will be completely wrong but the thing that strikes me most is what a tail on that side.

Don't watch enough state cricket to have much idea whose coming through, but of the current team I reckon Warner, Hughes, Wade, Clarke, Starc, Pattinson and Bird have a big future.

Starc, Pattinson, Bird sounds awesome as a trio, if Starc can improve his line and length. Starc for the X-Facto, Bird for the McGrath grinding approach, and Pattinson for the aggression.

Warner
Hughes
Hill
Burns
Clarke
Henriques
Wade
Pattinson
Agar
Starc
Cummins

Fairly young side now but that line up will grow, look out for names like Meryick Buchannon and Will Bosisto who are 2 young cricketers who have a hell of a lot of potential

2016?
According to the version of the FTP I've got, England host Sri Lanka and Pakistan that year, and we don't tour again until 2019. The next scheduled (by the FTP) Ashes is 2017/18 in Australia.

It should be in England 2017, in Australia 2018/19, if the world cup wasn't causing the next series here to be a year early.

I refuse to geuss that far ahead, I can't even have certainty on more than about 3 players for this year's Ashes squad. Clarke, Siddle, Pattinson ... nobody else is certain in my view.

Isn't it 2015?

I'm glad someone acknowledged this. There is every chance there will be a couple of bolters from the U19 teams of the last couple of years who will find there way into the Australian team. It may not necessarily be Bosisto or Buchanan, but they are certainly a couple of talented players.

By 2015?

That gives them two shield seasons to break into their state teams and then into the national team for an Ashes debut.

The thread title says 2016, which is 3 years away, but as Howard Littlejohn has stated there is no Ashes tour scheduled for that year (they are traditionally 4 years apart), so realistically we are looking 4 1/2 years ahead & some of the current 'up & comers' being named in teams may well have fallen by the wayside by then.

I'd probably be disapointed if Bosisto isn't pushing for selection by 2019

So they are, but that doesn't discount at least a couple of players from the U19 teams of the last couple of years being among those coming under consideration for selection in 2015, given they will be 21/22 years old. Phil Hughes made his Test debut at 20, James Pattinson at 21, Pat Cummins at 18. Given the transitional stage Australian cricket is currently going through, there is some very good opportunities for some of the youngsters coming out of the recent U19 teams to see International action sooner than expected.

Truth.
Patterson made a shield ton on debut, Sandhu's had a hot start to his list A career, as well as Bosisto and Buchanan, and that's just from that batch of u19's.

Looking back at past squads for tournaments and world cups, it's generally a pretty good breeding ground. Just from the 2008 squad you've got hazlewood, faulkner, pattinson, smith and hughes who all have international caps as well as Hill who probably would have but for injuries.

On the other hand Burns and Lynn had great first seasons of shield cricket and mediocre second seasons.

Same for Maddinson.

Indeed, not saying patterson or sandhu will be receiving higher honors anytime soon (although how delicious would Richie saying 'sandhu crusher' be), but historically the under 19s are a decent form guide to look to 2-3 years down the track, which is when we're looking to.

Maddinson is probably the one I'm most iffy on btw, shows brilliant flashes, but no where near often enough.

KP to fall out with English management again and convert to the light side. :D
