i think a lot of people out there forget just how good this bloke was in his prime, he was good in 2008-2011, but probably the years 2004-2007 he was phenominal!!!

my personal favourite was a game down at skilled stadium against adelaide in 2005, round 11 i think it was

was a low scoring game, very close on the scoreboard, we only won in the end by a kick. Scarlett played on scott welsh that day, ended up being top possesion getter with 30 disposals for the game, while at the same time welsh had 3 touches, it was unbelievable! it was like watching a goal keeper defending a net instead of 15m high goal posts, every single time the ball was kicked in their direction, scarlett just slaughtered him, he won the game off his own boot that day, the entire day was an arm wrestle and he single handedly got us over the line

I remember that game, Scarlo played very well.

Congrats also on mixing 6 different metaphors into 4 lines, gotta be a board record! :D

I saw Scarlo throw out the elbow to try and know a blokes block off at the interleague game yesterday at K'Park.
Luckily he missed because he would have got a good number of weeks. He looked somewhat frustrated at times.

There was a game against Melbourne in 2004 where Scarlo took David Neitz to the cleaners. Neitz made the fatal mistake of trying to outbody Scarlo at every opportunity, yet Scarlo took contested mark after contested mark. Garry Lyon after the game said it was the best game he'd ever seen by a key defender.

A close 2nd would have to be a game against Carlton at Etihad in about 2005. Scarlo injured his knee in the first quarter, and was unable to twist and turn as sharply as he normally would. After keeping Fev goalless in the first term, he spent the entire 2nd quarter on the bench with an ice pack on his knee, and Fev went berserk on Harley and kicked 5 for the quarter. Scarlo went back on him in the 2nd half, and despite being on one leg and only able to run in straight lines, completely blanketed Fev and was actually able to get forward and set up a few goals himself.

Amazed no-one has mentioned the 2007 GF.

Also the day where he towelled up Scott Cummings and kicked a goal for good measure, I still remember Cummings copping it from the Geelong crowd for basically being an unfit bum who'd conceded more goals to his direct opponent than he'd kicked.

Saw the thread title and instantly thought the same game against Adelaide. DESTROYED Welsh, single-handedly won us the game with his 30 touches. Then Bassett got the 3 votes for his 16 touches and I was all wtf mate...

I cant remember the exact details but it was a game against the Saints in... 05 I think? We ended up getting our asses kicked in the end, but Scarlett was truly a giant in the backline.

I will always remember his 2009 final against the Dogs, haven't watched the game since so not even sure it was one of his better games but I just remember how awesome he was down back and was basically the difference between us winning or losing by a few points.

This is more of a moment, not even sure if his whole game was that great, but I remember the first time we played Pies in the 09 season and were down about 30 points in the second. I have the image of Scarlett stuck in my head, with Collingwood thrusting the ball fwd to put them even further up, Scarlett somehow won the ball, held his head high as if to say, enough is enough and sent it back the other way to start a run of goals. We ended up winning by 20 points or something.

dont think ive ever seen a full back embarass a full forward as bad as that day, none of his touches were loose man or third up rebounding, they were genuine contests between him and welsh the entire afternoon, and he made the bloke look like a under 16's fringe player, and welsh wasnt exactly the worst player going around either, kicked about 40-60 goals in his good years, was no walk over

Ah, the brownlow.... Scarlow was AA in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. His respective Brownlow votes for those AA years are; 5,5,3,2,3,3. Midfielders medal?

Yep. Best game I saw from him. The fact that Bassett got the 3 Brownlow votes showed how incompetent the umpires were.

It wasn't a high profile game, but I remember we played Richmond at the MCG in 2004 (it was the week after we beat St.Kilda at Geelong). Shane Morrison had gone to Richmond from Brisbane and kicked 8 in the seconds the week before. Scarlett humiliated him as badly as I've ever seen. A couple of mates were watching it with me and said Scarlett was directing his teammates before the ball got there. I don't think Morrison played another senior game either.

A priceless moment in 2011 was when they were doing analysis with Brad Scott on one of the Foxtel shows and Lynch told him Scarlett only received 3 Brownlow votes for the year and Enright 2. His response was basically "that's all I need to know about the Brownlow".

Scarlo would probably be the only full back I can think of that has been so dominant that opposition coaches have actually used the designated full forward as a decoy to try and drag Scarlett out of the play. Hawks fans are convinced Buddy was used in this role in the 2008 grand final, but in our only other loss that year, Anthony Rocca did exactly the same thing. Malthouse was probably sick of seeing Scarlo run off Rocca time and time again, so he instructed Rocca to basically stay on the half forward flank and drag Scarlo with him, allowing his other forwards to be one out with their direct opponents.

Travis Cloke kicked 4 that night playing on Harry in only his 7th senior game, but despite Rocca, Fraser and Chris Bryan kicking a goal each, Collingwood's other 13 goals were spread around their small forwards and midfielders.

typical Kosi ay...his reaction time would have to be the slowest of any footballer that's ever played the game.

By the time Scarlett toe-poked the ball to Ablett, Kosi was still looking around, trying to work out where the ball had gone.

This is one of the best but to be honest I loved them all
