I can't agree on Ibbo struggling to find a spot. In my opinion our only young players who have a similar/higher ceiling are Hill and Morabito, and they were top 4 selections so you would expect that. I'm expecting (or maybe more hoping) Ibbotson to dominate in the coming years.

I always thought Crowley our best tagger. The other guys were really just fill ins in that role.

Meh, I just dont, and havent rated Crowley for 2-3 years, too inconsistent, suspect disposal and a limited role in the side.

If he cant shut out an opponent he becomes our equivalent of Simon Godfrey.

Palmer, Hill, Ibbo and Mora are our fantastic 4 in my opinion. Easily our most promising youngsters. People forget just how young Ibbotson actually is, he is just older than Palmer.

Really? I like Ibbo, Schammer and Deboer more in those roles, think the Wolf may have a point.

Wowsers! Who would have thought we'd be querying Crowley?

Pav, 211, Hilly, Taz, Hase and Chopper - for mine, the only players whose positions are absolutely, 100% unchallenged (Palmer probably, but still has to prove he's fully recovered from injury, ditto Mora).

All other spots are up for grabs - in our short history, have we EVER had this much depth?

Suban definitely, I erred there. And yes, the rest are all highly likely starters, but most, bar Mundy and Duff, ended the season with, or recovering from injury. And Mundy had some bad games, while Duff was dropped for one (and came back the better for it).

My point is that no one player can afford to let their game slip too much (as we saw with McPharlin, Ibbo and Mundy on occasion last season) as there's someone else who can quickly step up. Last year that "someone" was in the rehab group.

And before someone points it out, I know, it's the preseason, but even this time last year there were more locks than today.

I am not going to try to pick our best starting line up until I see some NAB cup form but it is a great sign when we are are having trouble fitting in Grover Soloman Mundy deboer and Crowly.

It will be great to see a couple of young key position types forcing their way into the team.I hope Murphy Johnson and Shepherd can force their way into a key position spot this year.Bradley will be important also as he gives other options with injuries

I am feeling really optomistic about this year and think we can push for top 8. First five games will determine this . We need to win at least 2 .

The line up below has enough versatility and height across all sections of the ground. The midfield can change in many ways, bring in Hasleby and you have an added inside midfielder.

The defence looks solid and Suban has been placed down back to provide line breaking ability.

The forwards also look rather solid, Solomon and Ballantyne providing the defensive pressure. It could be a make or break year for Headland, he really needs to step up and deliver.

Grover is looking more like a depth player, but injuries are always part of AFL, so he should be one of the first players picked.

Backs: Hayden McPharlin Dodd

Half Backs: Suban Tarrant Broughton

Midfield: McPhee Duffield Mundy

Half Forwards: Solomon Johnson Mayne

Forwards: Ballantyne Pavlich Headland

Followers: Sandilands Crowley Palmer

Interchange: Hill, Hasleby, Bradley/Clarke, Ibbotson

EMG: Grover, Hinkley, Deboer, Schammer, Morabito

I suppose you have to have a blend of youth and experience but for mine playing Solly and Dodd in from of DeBoer, Mora would be really disappointing. Those 2 create more clunkers than the rest of that side combined.

I recall this question being asked this time last year.

Meh. I was the Jeremiah last year, foretelling a bottom 4 finish + beltings, but being proved right gave me absolutely zero satisfaction.

I still reckon we're on track for about 8-10 wins in 2010 but I'll be putting aside the tres chic cynicism and trialling a cautiously optimistic approach - I reckon it'll be all the rage around August!.

i dont think solly's skills are as bad as people on here like to make out, his good far outweighs his bad

You might be right. I wondered if I was being a bit harsh.
I believe the single most important thing to our structures going forward is to eliminate players with suspect decision making / disposal, perhaps I'm a bit obsessed by it.

And maybe Solly's good points do make up for the odd clanger. So long as I don't see him holding the ball up for ages then kicking an up and under down the line I won't mind seeing him out there.
