Does anyone have any footage bar the match highlights from the afl site that shows one second of the fight amidst terrible pixelated quality?

I'm sure a lot of port and hawk supporters would love to see it in video.

Start watching this video at the 7 minute mark and the brawl starts around 7.10ish

Have a look at 7:11 and 7:16 and you will get some idea as to how long it went on for. Pretty much from 7:11 on Rioli was sitting on top of Stewart throwing punch after punch. Salter only cam in later.

Cyril is very lucky that the first flurry wasnt caught on video or seen by the umpires who took a ridiculously long time to notice anything.

And didn't pay a free kick as Birchall ran towards goal with Rioli starting a fight and punching one of our players behind the ball

At 7:08, the umpire runs right past the very initial incident (appears to be either shepparding off the ball or a collision) - he could have stopped everything else from boiling over right there.

I blame that central umpire ;)

A second Hawks player jumps in on Stewart during the very initial tussle - it is either Sewell or Bateman (can't tell exactly).

Then after that it gets messy... nothing really happens other than the flurry of Rioli punches. The rest is a bit of wrestling and shoving (hence the fines) and pulling players off others etc...

Loved the Trengove bee-line towards Franklin (when he starts shoving Brogan).

MRP was very sensible about this one.

Yes Trengove handled himself really well. He's got an eye for the main action. First he was over in the Rioli Salter melee then when it got to set to between Brogan and Franklin Jacko was straight over there and actually took Buddy away from Brogan.

Hawks-related melees are always high on sheer entertainment value - case inpoint, Nathan Lonie's UFC audition in the infamous line-in-the-sand game.

  • Around 0:12 - Still looking for the handball receive even as s**t gets real.
  • Around 1:04 - More than content to let Johnny Barker take over.
  • Around 1:10 - Looks to be finally happy with the odds as he gangs up on Andrew "Axeman" Welsh with Richie Vandenberg.
  • Around 1:19 - As the numbers even up he disengages and wanders off.
  • Around 1:27 - Leaves Chance Bateman in the capable hands of Sean Wellman and Dustin Fletcher before supervising a nearby scrum.
  • Around 1:41 - Goes to get involved again but cops a random shove and thinks better of it.
  • Around 1:50 - Wanders to the right of screen as Beaumont chins Murphy, before wandering to the left of screen a few seconds later.
  • Around 2:04 - Wanders up to Luke Hodge and Nathan Lovett-Murray, "HAI GUISE!", before everything thankfully simmers down.

The MRP assessed the strike that Rioli has been suspended for as low impact.

Hawks are contesting the "attempted striking" charge only.
They will cop the striking charge at the 25% discount (168.75 pts).

Pretty smart really - because if they win he gets it down to one game (168pts only), if they lose the appeal he still only ends up with 2 (168+80pts).

Good stuff.. But what ****s me off is the fact its always oh rioli this rioli that he must have been racially slured ... Plus love burgoyne costing off the packs hoping to get a chepa hit in ... A true great of the game.

Just noticed that Trengove was the one to shove Rioli's head into the ground to stop him pounding on Salter.
