Kersten's set to be a delisted free agent, why would anyone trade pick 35 for him?

You can only be a delisted free agent if your club delists you or doesnt offer you a contract. Kersten has rejected a 2 year contract offer from geelong so he cant be a DFA. Same thing with tuoht who cant make himself a DFA as carlton have offered him a contract.

Both parties need to sign off on a deal, and until that happens, people can back out. You're probably right that you'd re-sign him, but you're dreaming if you think a guy who kicked a goal a game this year as a lead-up forward is going to net you a second round pick.

No i agree he wont get a 2nd rnd we will get unders due to his contract status all i was saying was he can't be a DFA which is true.

I wonder as this trade is taking so long 2E could be wanting the Blues to get something decent in return for him?
Surely 2E would be grateful the club has given him the opportunity to play at the club etc?
Cant see any other reason its taking so long as i cant imagine it would effect the Gibbs saga?
Unless a pick coming in for 2E would be used in the Gibbs trade?

my feeling is that tuohy is p.....d off with the deal offered and feels he owes the club nothing

Agree. If all the talk is accurate, we offered him a shit contract. This had to be because we had wind of some interest either with North or Sydney and it appears to (so far) backfired with Geelong entering the picture.

Geelong have been extremely fair at the trade table in recent years. I expect they know touhys value, a fair value, and are working there way towards getting the relevant pick.

I'm expecting they will some how get a pick in the 20's and pass it on.

It looks like Tuohy situation could have been managed better.

Can they fairly and ethically guarantee we use it to select a gun?

If its down to 50k a year or a pick 25+ I agree, we keep him.

No, we dont. Keeping Gibbs would be the worst thing we could do. We take 13 + a second rounder and walk.

Thats exactly what they would do. **** off. No player would ever nominate us again if we cant get deals done by being idiots.

The two (maybe three) GWS boys are worth a mid first round pick (13).

We're miles off it. Miles off it. We dont have a forward line, and down half a dozen mids and 12 months into a three year rebuild.

We go hard at the draft, pile talent in at the under 23 year old bracket, and load up with an eye on 2020 onwards.

Taking shortcuts, or getting ahead of ourselves is the worst thing we can do.

Fair opinion. Our best this year through the west coast - hawthorn games was pretty damn good. Development and encouragement And learning boltons/carltons way should get us closer next year. We're probably further away from the gws's and dogs though in terms of confidence/talent and speed.

Gibbs should stay if we don't get two firsts. You'll have to deal with it. I'd prefer players that want to be part of it but who knows what's Gibbs's opinion as it's all media driven speculation at the moment.

It may take Carlton to be the team that changes the afl in terms of this utter bullshit contract crap. We will take Gibbs for 3 years against his will, hopefully he doesn't pull the mental issues card (no offence to those who carry this burden but it's been a common scapegoat lately). You sign for 5 years you play for 5 years. Simple.

Tuohy needs to go.

He will be 27 in December and isn't a star.

Would rather a youngster get a go, for AFL standards our squad is quite old considering we are a bottom team.
Just curious which other rebounding defenders in the league that can break lines, run and carry, long accurate kick and can run forward and kick goals from outside 50m that you would have ahead of him?

Looks like geelong might be ready to up their offer if the rumours of them going cold on lids are true. I realise touhy is out of contract but he has also stated his first choice of club was carlton. We have pushed him for a good deal. . We will not be recieving penuts. Its us or geelong send us caddy

I wonder if Tuohy choosing Geelong, a team that no doubt would be alright to play for but has no trade currency is a ploy to keep him at Carlton. You would think that if no trade with the Cats can be done that Tuohy would chose to re-sign with Carlton than to go into the preseason draft.

Surely a guy who was in the coaches team of the year in 2015 and has just came off his best season would have plenty of interest from other clubs.

It's a good idea to trade Tuohy, he's the type we ought to be trading, quality player in their late 20s but with replacements and not in a key position. Perhaps his manager has pulled out a card and this has backfired a little.

who exactly do we have that can replace tuohy? in case you haven't been watching any Blues game we have very few players that can use the ball the way that he can
Byrne is perfect, it's just unfortunate about his knee. Otherwise Bucks.

Byrne is/will be a better player than Tuohy but i think they'd work better as a tandem, rather than Byrne replacing him.

Buckley has nowhere near the poise that tuohy has IMO

he's gonna leave a fairly big hole in our list I think
