Sheik is just saying that Tuohy has worked out well for us - because he is worth more than a rookie.
However all we are doing ( it seems) is swapping a genuine AFL player for a younger second round pick(ish) maybe ....

so from a trade perspective I think we are losers - unless same pick is enough for a Marchbank/Pickett duo and then cross fingers re thier recoveries.

So a lot of IFs in the Tuohey situation - and they are adding up to not much.

Hard to take
Thinking of the big picture... if that nets us pick 34 and 42. Sending 42 to the dogs. That gets us hrovat. Net result tuohy for 34 and hrovat. Depending on draft. could work real well for us. Ive heard it runs deep.

Agreed Tuohy must have mentally checked out better to get something. Do the deal if the dogs agree to take 42 for Hrovat.

38 and 42 would be an OK result and certainly something we could work with.

Easiest would be to on-trade one for Hrovat which would be a good result and you'd think the Dogs would certainly accept that.

Alternatively you could package those two picks to move higher in the draft. Those two picks are valued together at pick 22 so someone like the Suns might be open to trading 24 or 26 - represents a gain in points for them and upgrades their 5th and 6th pick to either use at the draft or on-trade for more experienced bodies.

24 or 26 for Tuohy would be a good end result and very much in line with what some of us had him valued at to begin with.

Could theoretically use 38 & 42 to pay for our GWS trade if we get GC involved.

As crazy as it sounds thats how the AFL has valued picks.

If Smedts is involved I would be looking for Geldings first as well
some form of anti father-son sentiment going on here........

Tuohy (and Deledio, FWIW) approached Geelong via his management late in 2016 season. Geelong made it clear they are interested, however, they also made it clear it would be hard to make the deal happen due to salary cap issues, a lack of picks, guys on contracts already who don't want to leave, etc. Geelong will try to rustle together a fair pick, and if they don't, well the trade doesn't happen and it's then up to Tuohy to nominate for the PSD or sign with you guys.
Don't blame Tuohy at all - we offered him a very paltry contract according to reports.
If Geelong get Tuohy for anythign less than a low-mid 20's pick - you make out like bandits - Carlton has mismanaged this one which is why you are a chance.
How would you two know??? Did SOS really make him a paltry contract offer or was it more in line with what he should be being paid, because he was paid well and truly "overs" under the contract endorsed by the Kernahan/Swann/Malthouse/McKay/Rogers/Hughes regime??? If we are to believe SOS when he took over our list management, there were plenty of players who were "very spoiled" and didn't exactly have to work too hard to activate bonus clauses within their contracts. Tuohy may very well have been one of those and being brought back to reality may not sit well with him, because he feels he's entitled to more. However, as we know SOS has taken up Bolton's mantra, "There can be no sense of entitlement". If the first quote in this post is correct, then I doubt Geelong would be offering Tuohy much, if any, more than SOS is, just a longer deal.

SOS may very well be happy to trade Tuohy for the right pick/player, but if no trade can be achieved he has all the time between the end of Trade Week and the Preseason Draft to get a contract sorted. That being the case, I'm not quite sure how SOS can be accused of mismanaging Tuohy's contract negotiations. Far too many people are prepared to pass judgement before the game's been allowed to be played out IMO.
