In Braybrook today, a man who had been involved in rallies for the United Patriots Front and Reclaim Australia had his house raided where weapons including tasers were found.

With both groups scheduled to rally in Melton on Sunday, this is an alarming discovery.

Could either or both groups..or should..be listed as terror groups, given the way both groups operate in terms of inciting hatred and now seemingly in possession of weapons?

Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot...

Describing himself as Christian...

I expect every Christian in Australia to march in the streets protesting this tomorrow. :p

For the legal definition:

Section 100.1 of the Criminal Code defines a terrorist act as ‘an action or threat of action’ which is done or made with the intention of:

  • advancing a political, religious or ideological cause; and
  • coercing, or influencing by intimidation, the government of the Commonwealth, State or Territory or the government of a foreign country or intimidating the public or a section of the public.
Action will only be defined as a terrorist act if it:
  • causes serious physical harm or death;
  • seriously damages property;
  • endangers a person’s life;
  • creates a serious risk to public health or safety; or
  • seriously interferes with, seriously disrupts, or destroys, an electronic system.
Action will not be a terrorist act if it is advocacy, protest, dissent or industrial action and is not intended to cause serious physical harm or death, endanger the lives of others or create a serious risk to the public health or safety.

So unless there is evidence that they've threatened violence with the weapons, I don't think the individuals, nor the group, could be classed as a terrorist (group.) (Not sure I agree with that, there are certainly idealogical motives here, and carrying weapons is pretty darn intimidating.)

Terrorist or not, police will need to keep watching these groups closely.

Tasered by a fat loser patriot or gang bashed by ten coward masked socialists. I'd submit the left have the upper arm on violent acts to date due to the fact they have more people in this 'battle'. There is risk this will escalate to tit for tat assaults between the groups. Right side members likely to get done around demonstration day when a left side group gets it chances, left side members more likely to get picked off on non demonstration day.

They should be listed as terror groups, but they won't be, because they're Christian (or claim to be)

I think that they should be listed as terror groups, but they won't be, because they're Christian (or claim to be)

I think the underlined part is what you should be writing. Groups don't get listed as "terror" groups because you disagree with an ideology.

There's circa 20 groups banned in this country and I'd imagine all of them are involved in very, very average affairs.

Boko Haram - suicide bombings, murders, kidnappings etc
ISIS - suicide bombings, murders, kidnappings etc
Al Qa'ida - suicide bombings murders, kidnappings etc

Don't think the following really warrants adding to the aforementioned list.

Right wing group - wearing flag capes and yelling out Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi.
Left wing group - liberal use of the word "nazi" and posing in balaclavas.

I don't have much time for these kind of groups. However, what were the so called weapons they found? A kitchen knife, a hammer, an axe, scissors, etc! :rolleyes:

The leading cause of terrorist activity in the US is right wing terrorists.

I would hate for this to become another import, but sadly these UP types do have some particularly extreme views and see violence as acceptable.

It isnt even a religious issue, religion is just an excuse.

Rememeber when the Muslim teenager was caught with a plastic sword? The media dogs feasted on that.

So you would call being hit with a hammer an unarmed assault then? You're an idiot if you don't think a bunch of aggressive racist thugs in a group armed with kitchen knives and axes is in any way acceptable. In their rally today the racist groups even fought each other which goes to show their mindset.

Plus the guy arrested was found with bomb making materials and instructions so he should by all rights be classified as a terrorist.
