Davis Cup 2016 Australia v USA March 4th-6th

You have to have played or made yourself available to play Davis cup or fed cup in the 2 years leading up to the Olympics.

Then it comes down to ranking with a certain cut off point for entry into the Olympics. Then there is a certain amount of players you can have represent the country in each of the events (singles, doubles, mixed doubles).

How they work out entries for doubles and mixed I am not sure about though.
for Singles, 64 places, max 4 from each country; and the player has to have played minimum amount of matches for their country. top 56 that are eligible qualify (currently no. 76 in mens; 108 in womens)

I think most of the doubles teams are made up from the singles competitors, but the top 10 in the rankings qualify as well.

Anyone been to Kooyong before? The only have top section of grandstand seats left for sale. Is the view still ok from there or too far back?

Hewitt didn't altogether rule himself out of playing doubles. What about Hewitt and Peers to play doubles?

If Hewitt was playing it would be with Groth. It is looking a lot like Murray carried Peers too just quietly. With Kokkinakkis injured/underdone they should give Peers a run but I don't think he will live up to some of the hype the media created around him due to not being picked previously.

Been there many times but never sat in the top level, but as JackNah_8 says it's pretty small so you should be able to see OK.

Seems Kokkinakis is definitely not playing due to his shoulder injury.

Cheers.

Yeah shame about Kokki, oh well I'm sure he will feature in many more future Davis Cup ties

Does the final squad need to be named 10 days before the tie starts?

Sweet so Kyrgios and Tomic have about 2 or 3 weeks to stay on the "down-low" and give people no reasons for them not to be selected

Yep.

Doubles is a worry but, then again, if we are up against the Bryan brothers it probably doesn't matter (still someone has to play... ).

If Kyrgios and Kokki are both ruled out with injury, might mean Groth has to play singles?
Even though it seems he is still carrying an injury. Maybe Duckworth pops up as a surprise to play singles

Yes I think Groth is a possibility for singles. Would play Millman ahead of Duckworth on current form (possibly even ahead of Groth)

Kokkanakis doubles - no way

Millman > Duckworth

In fact Ebden and maybe even Smith > Duckworth.

Hopefully Kyrgios will be fine, if so, it should be him and Tomic in the singles. Not sure who will partner Groth, probably Peers, but iirc, we've rarely brought in specialist doubles players since the Woodies, except for Guccione, who started as a singles player, so we might throw in Millman or Duckworth, just because they can play singles as well. Hopefully in the long run, we can find another player who can play both singles and doubles well enough to take Hewitt's spot.
If Kyrgios is unavailable, as a replacement, you'd probably go for Millman > Groth > Duckworth.
Could be a very tricky tie no matter who plays though.

They'll take Groth over Millman considering its grass, given Groth's massive serve and S&V style

Team should be Tomic, Kyrgios, Groth and Millman/Peers. A big factor will be how Groth goes in the singles over the next few weeks. If he keeps losing in straight sets to the likes of Tiafoe, Del Bonis, Marchenko and Chung then you have to pick Millman. He may not get a match but you can't rely on Tomic and Kyrgios without an adequate singles backup. Plus it would be a waste picking two doubles players when they're probably going to lose the one tie they play whereas Millman would be in with a good shout against Isner or Sock should Tomic or Kyrgios decide the Kooyong crowd is not worthy to witness them at their best.

USA will go with an Isner, Johnson, Sock and maybe a Donald Young. I really don't think we will see the Bryan brothers or one of them when Sock and Johnson can do the dubs.
