His disposal is actually ok
Not elite but not disastrous
He could make it as a hard running wingman

The jury is out on Dow about whether he can play other positions - he spent a year under Bolton playing HFF, rotating through, and it was awful. That's the question about Dow and Carlton though isn't it? Is it the player or is it the development? Carroll looked good early, Dow looks great in the 2s. Are they playing these kids in the same positions that they are playing in the 2s when they come into the firsts. It's no good playing Dow as a permanent inside mid in the 2nds if they shove him out to wing or half forward when promoted. You play him on the wing or half forward in the 2nds. A lot of clubs don't seem to realise that the 2nds are training grounds for the 1sts. It's not about wins and losses.
I reckon he'd fit in pretty well alongside Taranto and Hopper who are both very good-elite defensively.he's an excellent first/second possession player at a stoppage, has incredible hands and a better kick than given credit for.
average at pretty much everything else although can kick a goal from open play or set shot consistently in the VFL.
problem is he needs a water carrier covering for his deficiencies and we already have Cripps not doing his share of the defensive work so can't fit another one in*
*at least that seems to be the thinking, suspect he'll get some more gametime against Essendon and we will see how it goes.

Jarryd Lyons was behind....who at the crows? And at the Suns? Played his role well for the Lions for a few years.Hard no to a guy who sits behind Kennedy and Hewett in the midfield pecking order.
Let SOS have him see out his potential at the Saints.
Probably Sloane and the Crouch brothers at the time.Jarryd Lyons was behind....who at the crows? And at the Suns? Played his role well for the Lions for a few years.
He was delisted the 2nd time before lions picked him up. GC obviously saw no value in him, Lions did.Probably Sloane and the Crouch brothers at the time.
But he was firmly entrenched in their best 22 when he opted to leave the club chasing coin up at the Gold Coast.
Not sure why he comes to mind for you in this thread. Completely different situations.
lyons had shown far more at afl level than dow hasHe was delisted the 2nd time before lions picked him up. GC obviously saw no value in him, Lions did.
Yeah agree with that.lyons had shown far more at afl level than dow has
What’s this got to do with Dow?He was delisted the 2nd time before lions picked him up. GC obviously saw no value in him, Lions did.
Didnt i just say that GC saw no value hin him but Lions did? If you can't work out the link to Dow and Carlton and potential suitor then I can't help you. What’s this got to do with Dow?
Lyons was a proven performer both in his last year at Adelaide and at Gold Coast.
You obviously don’t have the context of what happened at the time. Lyons had one more year on his contract and wanted out. He was clearly best 22 and in the Suns starting midfield when he wanted to part ways with the club.Didnt i just say that GC saw no value hin him but Lions did? Lyons wasn't best 22, and the Crows only offered him less than average salary to stay.Probably Sloane and the Crouch brothers at the time.

Or Setterfield/ Parish.Ralphy said he will be a DFA come years end
Hes an inside mid only, no doubting that. Also a place you can hide a poor kick. Just kick for territory which can be just as important from stoppage.
Cant be too much worse than a Wines/Worpel
Someone will take a punt since he will come for freeRalphy said he will be a DFA come years end

Swans were interested a few seasons ago but he turned us down. We need him just as much as did back thenSomeone will take a punt since he will come for free
He was not best 22 at GC by the end of his time with them. You obviously don’t have the context of what happened at the time. Lyons had one more year on his contract and wanted out. He was clearly best 22 and in the Suns starting midfield when he wanted to part ways with the club.
This situation is nothing like that of Dow.
His situation is closer to Lipinski than Lyons if anything.
Lyons showed much more in his last seasons at both Adelaide and GC than Dow has.He was not best 22 at GC by the end of his time with them.
He got dropped twice in his final year (first season with Dew), and was heading for Brodie territory, hence he saw the writing on the wall and got the hell out.
Also, you said 'Hard no to a guy who sits behind Kennedy and Hewett in the midfield pecking order', and the other guy replied saying 'what about Lyons at Adelaide and GC' which is true as Lyons wasn't even getting a game in Adelaide's midfield, he was playing forward, and received the aforementioned treatment with Dew, and you carry on as if he was just talking gibberish.
Doubt he'd leave Carlton to go play for Casey. He'd be depth only at the Dees. He'll go somewhere where he's more likely to lock down a spot.Weird as it sounds, I'd take a flyer on him at the Dees.
He's got flaws but he has attributes most of our midfield doesn't have (agility, breakaway speed). He'd be a better back-up option than Dunstan, who is toiling away in the VFL but is way too similar to our best mids to force his way in.
