I don't want to hear anymore talk of Levi being part of this trade. Our forwardline is just starting to show something and to let him go would be crazy. We need him to crash packs and take those big grabs. He's the most exciting part about our team right now and he is getting his kicking for goal sorted (it seems). Madism if we let him go.

We wouldn't exactly be down players given we still need to top up to minimum list numbers blues4flag
With Fraser Russell aboard, our list will actually stretch to 46 this year as Russell and Byrne will be outside the standard list numbers.

Anyway, opportunity is the key and if Garlett does go, then someone like Johnson has to step up.
If not Johnson then someone else we may acquire through trade/draft.

We just want our players putting in for the whole game and Garlett seems to have lost that passion..................for us at least.

Who's this Fraser Russell bloke and when'd we pick him up?

On Garlett, I'd rephrase that to:
Garlett seems to have lost that passion..................for this year at least. :p

Fraser Russell is the speedster that will come onto our B List next year.
May yet see him this year though.

Garletts current position with the CFC isn't healthy but things can change. They have before.

You have to give quality to get quality.

GWS won't want our fringe/duds. They've got talent coming out of their eye balls. There's top 5 picks wasting away in the NEAFL because there's only 22 spots in the AFL.
Then lets chase one or three of those instead. Buy cheap, sell high. I'd argue Boyd's value is currently over-inflated.

Is it better to pick up one potential out and out star but still have the same issue where our 16th to 22nd players continue to let us down or pick up three or four quality players who'll round us out nicely?

If we can pick up four players of the calibre of Thomas (price aside), Doc, Everitt and Wood while maintaining out first round pick, I'd be stoked. And I'd be pretty confident the odds of that working in our would be much greater than paying overs for Wood.

Exactly right...

If we are seriously trying to get Boyd this year, the trade that could make sense for all parties is a swap for Lachie Henderson.

Carlton get Boyd.
GWS get 24yo CHB Henderson to partner Davis for 8 years.

Boyd gets to play in Melbourne for the Club he barracks for and the Club who desperately needs him.

Henderson gets a big pay rise.

The sticking point would be getting Henderson to agree to go, as it always is with GWS. But their years of pain might be over and now be a more attractive destination for a quality 24yo.

For us we would have Boyd as our pea up forward(and in the marketing division - big consideration. Kid is a natural marketer and we need one badly).

We then have Jamo, Rowe and White down back with Giles developing and Watson??

And up forward we have Boyd, Levi and Waite.

Losing Hendo hurts, but this talk of sending 28yo's or fringe players to GWS for Tom Boyd is ridiculous.

This is Tom Boyd, not Taylor Adams or Josh Caddy.

Henderson suits GWS's need and Boyd suits ours.

There's no guarantee he'll be a future gun. What's he done in a year to see his value skyrocket?

People get more excited about a number than reality. We could pick up two promising talls for what it'd cost us to get Boyd. Number one talls hardly have a history of coming on as expected.

Talls that have gone in the top 3 in recent years:
2013: Boyd
2011: Patton
2010: Day
2008: Watts, Naitanui
2007: Kreuzer
2006: Gumbleton, Hansen
2005: Kennedy (4)
2004: Roughead, Franklin (5)
2002: Jared Brennan
2000: Kosi, Riewoldt

14 talls taken in the top 3 since 2000. Still early days for some but it's hardly a list that inspires confidence. Imagine Boyd ends up like a Kosi, Gumbleton or Watts?

If we want talls, then pick one up with pick 6 if it's not a stretch. Trade into the first round. Walker or Jamison to the right clubs could command a pick in the teens. Package Warnock and our third for a pick in the top 25. Take three bites of the cherry and hope a couple come on instead of putting it all on the line for Boyd and potentially crippling ourselves if it's a bust.
Imagine Boyd ends up like Hawkins who would cost Geelong pick seven today.

Henderson, Reid, Daniher, Day, Lynch, Tomlinson, Hogan, Patton and Boyd all look like top ten picks.

Demons traded picks 3 and 13 for Hogan, Barry and pick 20. I guess that's roughly what we'd have to give up to get a Boyd or Daniher.

We're not trading Henderson.
