Brendan Allen has moved into senior assistant coaching role at @sandyzebs this year. Jason Berry is now Dev Team coach, he formerly held the position of Skill Acquisition Specialist at the Essendon Football Club.

New St Kilda development coach Lindsey Gilbee will be match day backline coach & Paul Hudson continues as midfield coach.

Simon McPhee once again senior coach

Clearly he is there to help the players design their skill builds so that they wont have to respec so often. That s**t gets expensive after awhile!

Interesting (and good) to see the new Zebs Senior Assistant Coach (Brendan Allen) seems to be also involved to some extent with the Saints training sessions. Hopefully this is a sign of a healthy relationship for the next couple of seasons.

Brendan is on the far left of this photo posted on the Saints web page from training yesterday.

Dave.

Apparently he has a degree in "Skills Acquisition" ?!!

I've never seen such a specific, yet equally generic, subject matter. I wonder if it's strictly in a sporting context, or if he's also professionally qualified to pick up the finer points of plumbing and welding 3 times quicker than the average person...

Like the newsletter thunda; handy way of getting the news.

WE ARE BACK!! First article of new season on TrueZebras is now up...

Sandringham 2014 Preview – A tough year awaits - http://truezebras.net/2014/01/30/sandringham-2014-preview-a-tough-year-awaits/

But will it be that tough?
The injuries that plagued StKilda probably hit Sandringham even harder, they were literally running out of players.
If all the StKilda players are fit, Sandringham could benefit from players like:
Simpkin, Bruce or Delaney ( I don't believe both will play Saints ) and Gwilt. Maister, Lee and White were all injured at times last year. We'll also have to see if all of Stanley , Longer and Hickey play for Saints at once ( I think 2 at once will be best )and whether Holmes can get a gig.

Then, there are Webster, Newnes, Wright, Saunders , Murdoch, Ross, Minchington, Markworth, and Sippos, who should be improved, but only a handful will play for StKilda each week.

Then we have three of the most talented youngsters in the country and Mav Weller who should be terrific at VFL level.

IMO keeping them uninjured is the key.

I think the inexperience could hurt us again, happened a lot last year. We would play 2 amazing quarters and then fade out. The Zebs list is also very young (think ave age be bout 20-21).

If Saints can stay injury free then it helps Zebras cause for sure. I probably don't agree entirely with Nicks article, I think we will play finals.

The split of 15 Saints and 8 Zebras (23rd man is why that equals 23) will be interesting see how it pans out each week.

James Munro, Adam Cockie, Beau Dowler, Myke Cook, Peter Shakallis, Piers Flanagan will be at least 6 of his that probably play each week.

Going to be an exciting year, with so much youth at both clubs it's going to be interesting see them all develop!

Detective Superintendent Gerry Ryan from Victoria Police's crime department will move to the AFL with a brief to liaise with Australian and international law-enforcement agencies that specialise in sports-related crime.

He oversaw last year's investigation into allegations that a series of Melbourne soccer games were fixed as part of an international betting scam. It resulted in six arrests.

The appointment is part of an investment by the AFL in anti-corruption measures following the Essendon supplements scandal that immersed the competition in controversy throughout the 2013 season.

New measures put in place include:

■Bans on injecting players other than for a specific medical condition.

■Tougher gambling restrictions for AFL players and officials.

■Broader integrity examinations for club officials and employees.

■Bans on undesirables from entering changing rooms and coaches' boxes.

■Mandatory reporting of anti-doping claims.

■Witness protection rules.

■Wider anti-tanking rules.

Superintendent Ryan, a 40-year police veteran, has long been involved in top-level football and has been president of VFL club Sandringham since 2006. He will resign that post with his AFL appointment.

I was able to watch the intraclub via the saints.com.au upload and I was impressed with some of the Sandy players who were good enough to help us out by making up the numbers. Thanks guys.

Cockie appears good enough to be playing with us right now, Tiernan and Flanagan impressed as well.

Attendees may be able to give a better account of how well these guys did

Yep Cockie just continued his awesome form from last 2 years and as been pretty vocal about, still believe we should have rookie listed him. Looks at home amongst AFL players. He would have been close to best on ground. Also impressed with James Munro from half I saw and Myke Cook, Piers Flanagan, Dalton Graham, Pat Tiernan also impressive. Zebs have enormous amount young talent which will be exciting to watch alongside the young Saints.

At this stage I think the 8 Zebs that will play most weeks will be: Adam Cockie, Myke Cook, James Munro, Beau Dowler, Peter Shakallis, Piers Flanagan, Pat Tiernan/Dalton Graham and then the 23rd man. Thats the minimum, some very exciting talent in that group and some enormous talent missing out!

How did the ground upgrade finish up? Does it have complete ground cover? Is the increase in size noticeable and a real difference, or a small increase?
