Yeah agree that if we are confident of band 3 we should do something. But matching rules out any compo. That just turns it into a trade situation, and I highly doubt Geelong will give up their first for a bloke who had free agent status (and who isn't worth it anyway).

There are better approaches to take than matching. Maybe just offer to chip in for the contract if they agree to also up their offer a bit. Given his age we could maybe get up to Frawley-type compo even if there is less cash overall.
You don't think the AFL will see straight through any deal where we contribute part of the salary and just look at what Geelong are effectively paying

Both have traded in senior players in the hope of pushing into the top 4. Both sides are cooked. Can't believe we lost to North :( at least Essendon have the excuse of the draft bans

They played well, we played pretty poorly in the conditions. It happens when you play in the provinces.

Whats everyone's thoughts on Rowen Powell. Will he make it and what's his form been like at WAFL level?

Looking through our current list he could he be in the delist category at the end of 2015?

Playing out of position while East Perth lack forward targets. If he wasn't playing as a tall forward in a few rounds then EP would have lacked a tall forward outright.

Powell is best behind the ball or on a wing. With Lamb returning, Darling back and McInnes down where he belongs; then he should be pushed behind the ball where he can play alongside Barrass, with whom he has good team awareness.

I hadn't thought of that. Yeah I don't actually think it would be possible as Geelong lodge the offer.

I still can't see a scenario where we match an offer. Or how we could leverage them to give us a bit extra on the side. We should get band 2, and we wouldn't get better than that in a trade.

Maybe it's a case of us telling Geelong if you don't pay him X salary we will match it because it will give us a second rounder and he is worth more to us than that? We didn't trade Brown to St Kilda a few years ago because to us he was a required player, might be similar thinking with Selwood.
Media has him re-neg his contract so probably staying now..... or getting a feel for how much WC will pay?

Terrible wind in the stadium, but geex we missed a lot of easy shots. Been pretty average in front of goals since that game...
/Selwood thread

Would have to be two draft picks that the AFL would have to sort of agree equalled that hypothetical pick around 30 you mentioned.

And any extra trade would have to be separate from the FA transaction.

Hypothetically it could involve Geelong trading down their first (say pick 12) for an end of first rounder and an early second (tricky to work out which clubs the picks would come from until we know who has what) with pick 12 either going back to the Eagles or the Giants. Geelong have a history of splitting highish picks into 2 later picks and if they plan to be active in the trade period that may suit them, as well as the other clubs.

That said it is hard to ensure these things help the other clubs enough but also aren't so lopsided that the afl knocks them back.

Does seem like based on that article today that WC may be happy to keep Selwood though.

Why not just take him for free as a FA?

And we definitely want to keep him. That's never been in doubt. It's just whether he wants to stay.

because wells has a history of it as he thinks he can get good sliders down the order, and it may be useful to us with other trades. as a free agent is the preferred option though.fwiw I think scott will stay he seems like a very loyal type.

GWS board quoting a journo that is saying that he has spoken to Coniglio's parents and he will be staying at GWS.

Is it still up? I cant see it on his twitter? I am a twitter novice though.

You might have to select "Tweets and replies"

Read through his previous tweets, he loves to trumpet everything as an 'exclusive' but he seems to be on the money more often than not. Of course he might just be deleting tweets where he gets it horribly wrong :p

Who was the most recent GWS player linked with a move to Collingwood? Treloar?

If that is happening then the money is available to offer Coniglio, plays against us.

Seems to be coinciding with Selwood resuming WCE contract talks as well . So maybe Have something to do with Geelong going cold on the 3 way trade talks .??

Yeah Giants board seems to think that Treloar will go and Conigs will stay

Great. Melb teams get stronger and the expansion teams keep the WA kids for themselves.

Oh well, didn't think Conig was that high a priority anyway. Get Jett
