I think we've found our new captain in Sicily. Best player, leads by example, great speech. I think he'll have learned a lot from his short stints this year too. Dylan Moore for possible VC if we go down that route (O'Meara is also clearly in the conversation). Love the excitement and ambition of the younger players.

So pleased we have Sam as head coach. As for Jeff, I did listen to the full rambling speech and wish he'd followed his directions and kept it short. No doubt the people who co-authored his far more considered, recent letter felt the same and were shaking their heads behind the scenes. Underplays the crisis and saves his most passionate delivery for the somewhat laughable line 'We will never apologise!' [for commissioning the review]. Who's asking for that apology?

Recall a few saying JOM would certainly do better than Mitchell in the PCM as he had an amazing season (he didn’t).
Some people seem to remember JOMs good games (and when he is good he is certainly very eye catching and impactful) yet forget that he has quite a few games every year where he is essentially a non factor (like his start to this year).

Whereas Tom, whilst not being as eye catching and with more obvious limitations, just turns up to play every single week.

I wish we had more players that had his ability to get up for every game TBH. That’s what the good teams like the Cats have, their senior players very rarely (if ever) put in shockers like ours have a habit of doing.

Suck it JOM haters. 5th votes per game 🤡

Finn Maginness is the big midfield standout for mine.

Only 16 games (less than everyone else in the top 10) and finished 8th because he DID HIS JOB.

Moore / Newcombe clear midfield positives.
Mitchell / O’Meara also held their own.

Nash / Worpel / Impey / Day / Wingard negatives due to form / injury.

All of them need to improve in 2023

6th in votes per game.

It's a bit of a cherry pick but if you exclude games as medi sub he is 5th.

Going to an extreme, exclude games as the medi sub and those before he turned tagger against Melbourne he has more votes per game than Sic!
I reckon if we exclude all the games where he didn't get nine votes, he's in line for the brownlow.

Probably the first time ever I can recall the top 4 coming in exactly the same order as I thought.

Mitch Lewis coming 5th despite missing several games speaks volumes of the season he had.

A few surprised by Titch?
I seem to recall some weren't expecting him to feature in the top 10.
Shows that even in a "down" year for him, he was playing the role expected of him.

Coaches really didn't rate Lynch this year

Tough on Nash who polled quite well given he was required to play as an odd-job man in a number of games. His trajectory remains positive.

I don't think anybody suggested he'd miss the top 10, at least not anyone serious. Just by virtue of not missing anywhere near as many games as most.

I was there and it was absolutely amazing.. players were so genuine and approachable, the food was amazing and my seat was literally right next to the players.. got to shake Sicilys hand as he went up to the podium to recieve his medal :D

Was a very good vibe to the room and made it feel as we are really on the right path to future success!

Brilliant work Grumble. This strips away many misconceptions and shows how the coaches feel about every player.
Again thanks

37 players rated.

The votes are very revealing.

3 of the bottom 5 are gone.

Kosie (who is an AFL quality player) is in the lower echelon. He wanted to be a fwd but for mine his qualities have always been as a backman. Jeka may have gone past him as a back... not on defensive traits but on offensive capability. And Blank may has sown up the defensive spot. Kosie may have shot himself in the foot by wanting to be a fwd.

Finn got the votes that he deserved for utterly smashing the jobs that he was asked to do. He showed a level of commitment to his task, and the smarts to do it well, that few could. His kicking remains highly suspect but that does not matter when he is shutting down the oppositions best method of moving the ball. IMO Finn will never be a match winner, but he could be a match definer. I hope he never gets a big head and continues to torment opposition players and coaches.

Love it!

Based on the players Draft Year.
Just wondering… could this group be the lowest “rated group in their draft years“ to have won the tops 6 at any teams Club award?

I’d bet it is.

For all the negatives about the Hawks development of players, this is something that should not be forgotten.
