It's actually ridiculous. I was at the game last season where we beat them 2-0, they had a man sent off after two minutes. Stadium was empty after 60 minutes apart from the Hull supporters. I just don't understand it.

The Mackems are genuinely some of the most fickle fans going around. They can't even sell out their home derby against us and usually have to give tickets away.

Love Thierry Henry but he was pretty off the mark 2 weeks ago with his praise for their fans. That would have been one of the few times this season the SOL would have had that kind of atmosphere.

“It was unbelievable. They were still here after the game chanting ‘five in a row’ and I’m thinking ‘what are you doing? Go home, the game’s finished!’

“I actually hoped Newcastle wouldn’t equalise, no disrespect to Newcastle, but it was just a special day.

“A Newcastle goal would have ruined it for Sunderland and Jermain Defoe as well.”

Can't see how he is being off the mark. Purely commenting on how the fans were acting at that particular game, not over the course of the season. Seems entirely accurate to me unless he is lying about what actually happened, which I doubt.

I think the article I read the quote from tried to paint it as 'Henry praising the amazing Sunderland fanbase in general' (as opposed to a one off game).

Fair enough though, probably just me being bitter and twisted at the result still.

it's uncertain as to whether it was pep or the higher ups who did it.

it looks bad but it's frustration, pure and simple. ribery, robben, thiago, martinez, bastian et al have all faced large spells out. benatia comes off injured too. he's completely lost his cool. the doctor is also apparently a bit of a nutter.
