Australia's World T20 Squad (March 2016)

It appears they picked the T20 players for the series v India and because they lost 3-0 they decided to dump the specialists and go for the test squad, its what they always do before a World T20
I suspect they might be influenced by the Thunder's victory. If Hartley isn't used as a specialist keeper in the BBL winning Thunder, with a healthy supply of all-rounders in the team, I'm not so sure they make the move to pick Nevill in this team, that also has a healthy supply of all-rounders

small sample but to be fair both these guys looked out of their depth vs India. Since it is a World Cup and India will likely go deep into the tournament, picking them is difficult.

Pretty harsh on them based on such a small sample size... but the real point is that this only makes sense if Lynn/Head missed out to Marsh/Bailey. ie, if the selectors saw they were out of their depth, and decided to go with players with proven international experience. Except the selectors went with Agar, who had a poorer BBL and less international exposure. And before anyone mentions Agar's bowling... he bowled nine overs in the BBL. Besides, if Agar's bowling was going to be a factor, again, why didn't he get a game against India?

Basically, it looks like the selectors wanted to give Head and Lynn a shot, and when they didn't perform immediately, the selectors have shat their pants and taken a gamble on Agar.

Well Lynn is a very ordinary player against spin so

The claim that Lynn is ordinary against spin was being floated throughout the BBL, so it was hardly news to the selectors. And besides, Lynn's three dismissals against India were actually against the pace bowlers. So it's not like the selectors gave him a chance, and then were so shocked at his poor performances against spin that they were compelled to ignore him. Again, it suggests that with only a handful of games before the World Cup, the selectors had no plan and no clue.

Given Payne's BBL efforts, l'm disappointed he didnt get a look in. He is a better keeper to spin than any of them. Overall, the method of selection looks very haphazard at best. Their approach to Khawaja & to the keeping spot have been farcical at best.
Also playing on dead flat decks this summer doesnt help discern who can actually bat versus the flat track bullies who wont succeed on the subcontinent.
The selectors have to be trolling us. How do you make a case for Neville to be our T20 keeper.
We will not get past our group.
This is the side I would of picked and taken into the first game:
Aaron Finch
Shane Watson
Usman Khawaja
David Warner
Steve Smith
Glenn Maxwell
Tim Paine
James Faulkner
John Hastings
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Cam Boyce

George Bailey (unlucky not to be in my side because I believe he is suited to slower wickets)
Adam Zampa
Mitchell Marsh

I reckon ch9 will end up broadcasting matches involving Australia + finals.
Foxtel will do the rest.
Hopefully Foxtel will be allowed to broadcast Australian matches as well so we can watch in HD

There are so many bemusing decisions made, I don't even know where to begin. Even the decisions I completely agree with, don't actually make sense when you put them in context...

Nevill over Wade -- no issues with this decision, but given Nevill's complete lack of T20 experience, surely he should have been played during the domestic series, or at least over in NZ? Why didn't Nevill play instead of Bancroft??

Josh Hazelwood -- good player, but very limited T20 experience

NCN -- no match fitness, big gamble.

Agar -- lol, wot?? He's barely bowled so he must be selected as a batsman or batting allrounder...

No Lynn -- dominant player of the BBL, then gets three games against Indian and is dropped. Why bother selecting him against India if he was no chance for the World Cup. Or did they change their mind on the basis of his three games?

No Head -- see Lynn. You could also make a case for Head to play in Agar's spot - he actually bowled more overs than Agar, and took more wickets.

No Marsh -- no issues with this... but, it does beg the question, why did they select him against India???

No Baily -- as with Marsh, I don't have a major issue here except, again, why did they select him against India??

All in all, I don't mind the squad despite a few baffling decisions (ie, Agar). But it makes absolutely no sense when compared to the teams that played this summer. The selectors have clearly got no clue whatsoever and are stabbing in the dark. The selection of Nevill is particularly bizarre. If I were a player, I'd be pretty bloody confused.

Rod Marsh has got to go.

We got flogged by India in our own backyard. How do you think the players you mentioned would go over there? It's not that hard to get your head around, seeing as 8 players or so were in NZ whilst the T20 series was on.

Half those boys were picked because our front line players were already in another country. It was a joke of a series.

Again, Agar is not being sent over as a front line spinner. Middle order batsman who can bowl a bit.

You can keep saying it, but he is being sent as a spinning all rounder.

The selectors will be looking at 3 all rounders and 3 bowlers. Agar is fighting with Marsh and Faulkner for one spot.

He's being sent over because he does all three facets of the game well.

Handy, powerful lower word bat.

Handy, useful spinner who can bowl darts.

Exceptional fielder.

It's why Boyce missed out - doesn't tick all three boxes and his stand out facet wasn't good enough to override the rest.

Well done to the selectors on bringing in Nevill. I've advocated his selection for some time now. Best glove man in Australia sure he's not a big hitter but he will make up for it with all the half chances coming his way in the field on low slow spinning decks.

Why not Paine then, reality these guys are going to have to play a role with the bat and who will also take the half chances
