Why would a club like Freo delist a young KPP to have a live pick at 72 or thereabouts?

Their best talls are veterans.

We may be concerned Smith won't ever grow into his body, last half of 2013 he had a shoulder injury and most of 2014 was a write off due to shoulder and hammy problems. Only 7 wafl games this year

Do people not read "and have committed to selecting him in the rookie draft". Nine players have delisted to be rookied by the same club. It will become more common as clubs are tight on list spots and want to sign a delisted FA. You have to pick either the player least likely to play or least likely to be poached to delist and re-rookie.
