FLAG TIGER TO DELAY TALKS

RICHMOND midfielder Jack Graham is prepared to wait through the season before kickstarting talks on his next contract, as the club's dual premiership player weighs up his free agency decision.

The South Australian, who won flags at the Tigers in 2017 and 2020, has missed the start of the season with a quad injury but remains one of the League's most high-profile free agents this year.

Graham toured Port Adelaide's facilities when he was still under contract with Richmond back in October 2022, but opted to remain at Punt Road and then hit a trigger in his deal early last season that took him through to free agency.

But with the Tigers expected to undergo a transition in their list profile under new coach Adem Yze, both the player and the club have agreed to hold off talks over his next contract until later in the campaign.

"He's a quality player and at the moment, we're just going to see how it all unfolds," Graham's manager Marty Pask from Kapital Sports Group told AFL.com.au's trade and draft show Gettable last week.

"Richmond's in an interesting position, with the list and where they're at. They've got a couple of older guys and they're starting to play some youth as well.

"We've obviously met and agreed just to take a breath and look at how the season starts for everybody, then we'll kick the tyres a little bit more on that in the next little while."

Despite the decision to delay talks around Graham's future into the season, Pask said there remained an understanding from both parties regarding his situation.

"It's the preparedness now for club and player to actually not panic and just say, 'Hey it is your free agency year so how do we attack this and what does it look like?'" Pask said.

"I've done deals with [Richmond list manager] Blair Hartley for a very long time, so there's certainly nothing there that's untoward or anything that should surprise anyone, other than we're looking at this as his free agency year.

"Where is Richmond at? What do they want to do? And what does Jack Graham want to do and where is he at? Both parties talk through that." – Riley Beveridge

Toured port adelaide before they pulled out when they needed to use the picks on JHF instead, likely we let him walk for whatever compensation pick we get. He doesn't really fit now that we have taranto and hopper

Gettable raised the possibility of clubs in a premiership window having a nibble at lynch, but i can't see it, the only team would be melbourne and they do have the brayshaw cap space. Unlike in defense and midfield, Lynch is not keeping a young player out of the team, and we need experience and quality afl players otherwise we will be stuck in the mud for a while.

There is every chance all of Martin, Grimes, Prestia, Pickett are off the list next year. We still need players that understand how to be AFL players to be around the playing group.

That would leave only Lynch, Broad, Vlastuin, Nank, Short, if you get rid of Lynch that group is very skinny

Cant cut too deep, I agree, but I reckon Baker and Dusty will stay. Graham needs to go.
Hmm I’m not so sure , we ll see with retirements delisting and expected trades I dont think we ll need to any further than that or you become completely rudderless and spiral into that abyss where even young players don’t stay

I'd only do it if we managed to bring in someone like Ugle-Hagen, and that's looking very unlikely.

Jack Graham - He will leave as a free agent
Dylan Grimes - He will retire
Dustin Martin - He will sign 2 year deal
Kamdyn McIntosh - He will sign 1 year deal
Toby Nankervis - He will sign 3 year deal
Dion Prestia - He will want to continue and club will offer a 1 year deal
Ben Miller* - He will get a 2 year deal
Sam Naismith* - He will get a 1 year deal
Mate Colina* - Doesnt matter
What about the other 10

Surely as a 2x premiership mid we get a high compo for FA…

Nekminnit… afl house gives end of 3rd round, which once factoring in father son, academy, etc is pick 80

Few on here I'd look at. Namely McCluggage and Gulden. Not like Gulden would leave though.
Hugh - is on a million a year and settled. Reckon he stays.
Jack - injury prone and will sign one yearer’s.
Tyson - has a flag and has kind of checked out. Don’t want, and he don’t want.
Cam - strange cat. Not sure what he stands for. Has to stay after criticising JHF for not.
Liam - heart and soul player, but the beat of home and a big pay day may swing him. Think we knew that by making him VC.
Dustin - can do what he wants. No one will ever, get 3 Norm Smith’s. Have a feeling he stays.
Josh - very good Backman, a bit injury-prone, who stays.
Errol - nearly generational, who stays. Not sure how the Swans do their sums.
Logan - inconsistent and always will be. But WCE will open up, and so they should. Reckon he stays.
Bailey - needs a fresh start and it’s likely down the highway.
Tim - gets battered in the ruck, but is a fair ruck-rover. He has to go, given Naughton and JUH salaries. WCE would be silly to not be on their 3rd year in his ear.

Tigers have to keep building from within, and go to the draft this year with good picks. Liking what Chris Toce could do.

No different too our situation with Lynch.
Dusty >>>Kmart
Cotch>>>Moore
Jack>>>Pendles
Prestia>>>????

If anything they have more room than we had.
McStay would be on decent coin as would the Diacos brothers

Not entirely sure we get a first round pick for him.
We would from the Dees, even if we had to give back one of the plethora of later picks. Freo probably would if they don't get Logan McDonald from Swans. Swans would if they lose Logan McDonald. Cats probably would if they're around the mark this year and Hawkins retires.
