I'm more excited about this pick than the other two picks. Love his kicking action.
He has that classy fake and bake that just comes naturally to many left footers, and I suspect it will work for him at sanfl level as well.

With a season at the Maggies and some extra muscle, if he can take those evasive skills and that quality disposal by foot to the next level he could definitely be a late gem.

Interesting that at the start of the year, he was viewed as one of the top-10 to watch in 2023 by Cal Twomey with the other nine all going within the top-30, and most going first round. So he slid through the year. Looks very skinny, so might be one that needs an AFL preseason or two before he hits his full potential. Could end up being a steal of the 2023 draft.

Got a slight bit of Polec in that movement

Like this pick. Hopefully our next Amon type. Shame we've created such a massive hole on the wing by letting Amon go, but hopefully we see Will sooner than later. Clearly needs some bulking, but will probably get opportunities quickly if he is up to it.

What were the mains reasons for him to drop from possible top10 to whatever pick we got him at...

Good question. He was definitely a "slider." Some pre-draft quotes:

"... they’d be hoping Charleson’s teammate George Stevens or even Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Will Lorenz slips through to their picks.
Best-case scenarios: Get a big draft slider with their first selection like George Stevens, Matt Carroll or Will Lorenz. Then one of Lachie Chaleson or Loch Rawlinson are still available with their last selection."
also...
"The Power have been strongly linked to GWV Rebels small forward Lachie Charleson and Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Will Lorenz. But whether they get through to Port remains unclear, as Charleson has interest from West Coast and Lorenz has been linked to the Western Bulldogs."

So we were expecting him to go higher, and he slid to us.

His year was ok, just not great. So did he not impress recruiters in his interviews? Other players grew & increased in size over the year, but he looks slight - did that impact on his overall year.

Whatever the case, we needed to search for bargains & IMO we have drafted very well with the picks we had.

The videos on the Port website are good. Longer than the pre-draft clips. Gives you more insight into why they were chosen.

Scott Pendlebury? :p
