What is your clubs best 22 of the 21st century so far?

I’m guessing you had rohan jones as the bench or was it Brett ? Either way I’d still be taking Priddis over both.
Rowan Jones extremely underrated player pridda was certainly better but if I’ve got Judd, Kerr, Cuz, shuey ect running around chick and Jones are more complimentary and versatile

I could be wrong but I think Melbourne and Gold Coast fans are the only ones not to have put in a best 22 of the 21st century yet.

Can you guys please help? :)
Pretty sure I saw a Gold Coast one somewhere.

For obvious reasons it's fairly 2021 premiership-focussed. The forwardline definitely packs more of a punch though.

Disappointed no other North supporters have had a crack, would love to see where others differ.

For the Hawks:

Gibson - Lake - Burgoyne
Hodge - Sicily - Birchall

Everitt - S. Mitchell - Lewis
Smith - T. Mitchell - Crawford

Rioli - Roughead - Gunston
Breust - Franklin - Williams

Bench: Sewell, Croad, Hale / Big Boy, Hill

In consideration: Osborne, Guerra, Frawley, Bateman, Stratton

For the Hawks:

Gibson - Lake - Burgoyne
Hodge - Sicily - Birchall

Everitt - S. Mitchell - Lewis
Smith - T. Mitchell - Crawford

Rioli - Roughead - Gunston
Breust - Franklin - Williams

Bench: Sewell, Croad, Hale / Big Boy, Hill

Good side. 21/22 the same as mine, albeit with some selected in different positions (but I think I like your structure more). I leaned McEvoy over Hale in a tight one.

Only difference was I selected Joel Smith as basically my last man instead of Brad Hill. Not overly attached to that choice but feel Smith is slightly underrated (due to playing in an era where we were poor). He was All Australian twice and won our B&F in the year we narrowly missed the GF (in 164 games at Hawthorn). I reckon that shades Hill who left when he was 23 and sub 100 games (with no top 5 B&F placings).

smith was a gun agree on that one. I think Stratton is a good bench player for this side though as you have Birchall Hodge who can push up if a more defensive mindset is needed in your backline.

Yes - good call. I think often these sides are selected on 'paper' with those that most deserve a game on 'credentials' following an approximate structure rather than genuinely selected to play a game. In Hawthorn's team of the century for example, we picked Jason Dunstall in a forward pocket and Peter Knights on a half back flank. IN a real game, those selections may not suit a purely balanced side but both players are "all-timers" and are "must selects" so have to be included, regardless of whether it would best suit if they were actually to play a game this weekend. I think the same would go for most representative sides like these.

To extend this example, if "Hawthorn of the 21st century" were to play a game this weekend, I think it would be possible that we would leave out someone like Tom Mitchell in favour of someone like Liam Shiels. Tom is obviously the better player and better credentialed, having won the Brownlow, MVP, multiple AA's, multiple B&F's whilst Shiels has almost no individual awards. However, if you have ball winners like Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis, Luke Hodge, Shaun Burgoyne, etc rotating through the midfield, you probably more need someone like Shiels, who will block for the others, create space, play defensively, tackle heaps, etc. instead of another ball winner like Tom Mitchell.

Similarly, whilst Rioli is already in there, you may not select all of Gunston, Breust, Williams (along with Franklin and Roughead) for a game played today. You may prefer to select someone like Puopolo instead of Williams, to create additional defensive pressure and cause opposition turnovers at the sacrifice of the greater offensive threat that Williams poses.

(But for a rep side that will never play an actual game, you need to select the likes of Tom Mitchell and Mark Williams as the most deserving of their place for what they produced).

With all that said, Stratton is just about there from a credenial point of view anyway as he was near elite as a stopper (on all sizes) for a number of seasons, was unlucky with AA (as pure defenders were not selected for a while there when he was the best), was a key member of the threepeat and he captained the club. In short, he's pretty close to making the 'on paper/rep side' version (but maybe just outside) and would almost certainly get picked if it was a real game for the reasons you mentioned.

Yeah totally agree I was probably going a bit to deep for what the side is, either way a bloody good side would be hard to beat.

Teams of the second century of VFL/AFL (1997-present). Tried to factor in only football played from 97 onwards so some gun 90's players will miss out if the bulk of their great footy came before 97. However games played is their total career games. Too lazy to calculate how many were played from 97 on.

Teams of the second century of VFL/AFL (1997-present). Tried to factor in only football played from 97 onwards so some gun 90's players will miss out if the bulk of their great footy came before 97. However games played is their total career games. Too lazy to calculate how many were played from 97 on.

That is extremely well done. Mind if I use this when creating a thread with a poll?

I am looking through it and see a couple of issues, like I think Barry Hall would be in the Bulldogs side, but overall very well done.

So far I have

Adelaide
B: Doughty, Rutten, Johncock
HB: Smith, Talia, Dawson
C: McLeod, Ricciuto, Edwards
HF: Goodwin, Jenkins, Sloane
F: Betts, Walker, Welsh
Foll: Jacobs, Dangerfield, Thompson
Int: Douglas, Burton, Laird, Cameron

I know it’s not super important but a couple position swaps:

McLeod to HB, Dawson/Doughty/Johncock to the bench, Sloane to the wing and Douglas, Burton or Cameron to HF.

Sloane hasn’t really spent much time forward and McLeod didn’t spend a lot of time on the wing.

It was a pretty quick exercise by me. There will be some errors and I won't disagree with any hardcore fans who see differently.

Pretty sure I saw a Gold Coast one somewhere.

Melbourne

HB: Salem Rivers Brayshaw
C: Green Oliver Bruce
HF: Petracca Robertson Yze

For obvious reasons it's fairly 2021 premiership-focussed. The forwardline definitely packs more of a punch though.
I think the Dees would have gone better this year if they went closer to your team and rolled out David Neitz to stand at full forward

Short Port Adelaide and Gold Coast.
Needs more Ben Hart & Nigel Smart for the Crows... these All Australians are ahead of Doughty. Douglas to sub.

Yeah, I had players more in the positions they played.

COLLINGWOOD

B: Brayden Maynard - Darcy Moore - James Clement
HB: Heritier Lumumba - Ben Reid - Heath Shaw
C: Steele Sidebottom - Dane Swan - Dale Thomas
HF: Jordan De Goey - Travis Cloke - Alan Didak
F: Leon Davis - Chris Tarrant - Jamie Elliott
R: Brodie Grundy - Nathan Buckley - Scott Pendlebury
I: Nick Daicos - Anthony Rocca - Jeremy Howe - Dayne Beams
Sub: Taylor Adams

HM: Jack Crisp, Nick Maxwell, Darren Jolly, Scott Burns, Paul Licuria, Simon Prestigiacomo, Brody Mihocek, Josh Daicos
Lumumba instead of Nick Daicos on the half back flank is crazy talk. Crisp would be ahead of Heretier in that position too. Otherwise, solid effort.

So something like this?

B: Doughty, Rutten, Johncock

HF: Goodwin, Jenkins, Burton
F: Betts, Walker, Welsh
Foll: Jacobs, Dangerfield, Thompson
Int: Douglas, Dawson, Laird, Cameron

Some ripper combined sides listed.

Who would win if you could create a best of the best combined competition with all players at their peak?

be out of hawks, Lions, Geelong and WCE in my opinion.
