What would a Dutton Liberal leadership mean for the Liberals and the country?

If Labor gave it he'd accuse them of being divisive
“You will not change us. If you do not subscribe to the Australian way of life, leave the country.”

And then

Dutton said he believed Australians “have had a gutful of the politics of division and the preoccupation with difference”.

Seriously you can't make this s**t up.

He knows what he’s doing.

Be divisive as he can despite claiming others are and then hope he can create this wave of people voting for him.

Won’t work here though.

Dutton's turned into a bit of a joke hasn't he? The hard man persona is dissolving into parody, he's personally inventing SMRs for Australia because nowhere else in the world does that technology exist and now he's looks like he wants to dismantle long standing bipartisan policy on the Middle East. It's getting Lathamesque.

Gods work

For the life of me I don’t get god botherers teaming up with would be fascists. Surely neither believe in the same ends game?

Must purely be about graft
Power and ego. Look at the catholic church, the current pope sells himself off to any dictator as long as they let the catholic church of some semblance of control of their worshippers in that country.

I have read a little bit about this. Conservative elites and prosperity gospel Christians are a match made in heaven.

Neither cares about the other one bit - but equally they have no crossover. The exist in entirely independent and completely separate silos.

The conservative elites do not care what religious kooks do as long as they let the conservative elites make as much money as they want, and the religious kooks don't give a crap who the elites s**t on as long as they can keep being religious kooks.

Ultimately this is the huge advantage that the conservative side of politics has - they all in 100% agreement that being a complete campaigner is how one should be and there is zero argument over it.

So they are always presenting a unified front.

When is the next round of polling - surely this endless droning and gaffes eventually starts to hurt Dutton.
Not really - it gives him airtime and allows him to set the agenda in the popular press and social media despite the fact he hasn't come up with a single unique policy solution on anything since becoming Opposition Leader.

Everything he says is filled with contradictions. Purporting to defend Jews against rising intolerance while deliberately stoking intolerance against other religious and racial groups ('Dutton suggested on Wednesday that a “supine” police response to antisemitic incidents could reflect an effort to avoid “offending certain cultural sensitivities or stoking tension in particular communities”.)

He doesn't care about anything but his own political skin.

I hate this every single paper and news show leads with headlines of his words as if its of any sort of value

so his message gets amplified a way that any response to it doesn't

but really what I hate is political reporting is not analysis of policy but just parroting what each side said about policy

there is zero substance and the message is set by the politicians and who gets the most favorable coverage from the media

In the Liberal Party the members decide the candidates and the elected parliamentarians decide the policy.

In the ALP the almost exact opposite is the case, keeping in mind that because the ALP is structurally the political wing of the union movement, the membership is mostly the union movement, so they decide the policy and the party leadership (MPs, union leaders, elected office bearers) decide the candidates except when they devolve that power to the membership, keeping in mind the factions are allocated which seats they get to pick the member (the factions are bricks and mortar in the ALP).

If anything, the movement to the right in the Liberal Party has been a membership reaction to vested interests. But there is still a granting of credit for those who can raise funds.
And Union heads are democratically elected by unionised workforces, so it's an extra layer of democracy, bloody commies

Before Christmas he had Albanese on the run and it was somewhat working although that was mostly the failed referendum.

Since Christmas Dutton and the Liberals have become a laughing stock. They are openly being mocked now - no one takes them seriously.

Dutton will only be on Sky and Ray Hadley soon and that is it.

Exactly, might make a difference if he was actually held to account. Articles in the Guardian about what a kook he is don't count, he should be getting grilled daily by the journos in the commercial media (TV, print and radio) but we all know why that won't happen.

What's the odds that the dogwhistling Dutton will use the tragic event in Bondi to attack either the Government, Muslims, the police, multiculturalism, blame it on anti-semites .... all of the above plus whomever he can rope in to blame for some maniac's atrocities?
